Lao Cai Ward strives to become a regional connection center, worthy of its position as an international trade gateway.

Attending the conference were representatives of the Provincial Tourism Information and Promotion Center; Vietnam Institute of Applied Folk Culture Research; Tourism Association; Provincial Traditional Medicine Association and a number of agencies, enterprises, and communes and wards with strengths in tourism development.

At the conference, representatives of Lao Cai Ward People's Committee introduced the potential, advantages, current status and orientation of local tourism development. Lao Cai Ward was established on the basis of merging the entire natural area and population of 06 commune-level administrative units, including Duyen Hai, Coc Leu, Kim Tan, Lao Cai wards and Van Hoa and Ban Phiet communes. Currently, the ward has a natural area of 72.32 km2, including 129 residential groups, and a population of 76,981 people.

With its position as the administrative, commercial, service center and international gateway of the province, Lao Cai ward is holding many outstanding advantages: Lao Cai International Station connects directly with Yunnan province (China); Coc Leu market - a typical cultural and commercial space of the border region; a system of rich relics and heritages with 4 relics ranked as National Historical - Cultural Relics (Thuong Temple, Mau Temple, Cam Temple, President Ho Chi Minh's memorial site in Lao Cai) and 2 relics ranked as provincial relics (Quan Temple, Van Hoa Temple)... These historical and cultural relics are also attractive tourist destinations.

During the 2020 - 2025 term, Lao Cai ward welcomed over 1.5 million visitors; revenue from tourism and services is estimated at over 2,000 billion VND. Despite its great potential, Lao Cai ward still faces difficulties in promoting its strengths and has not yet created its own tourism brand.

Delegates discussed solutions to exploit potential and develop tourism in Lao Cai ward.

At the conference, delegates enthusiastically discussed solutions to overcome difficulties, exploit potentials, advantages and tourism development orientation of Lao Cai ward, focusing on some main contents, such as: Developing Lao Cai tourism associated with border gates, trade and services; developing typical tourism products of Lao Cai ward and the ability to link tourism between Lao Cai ward and other key tourist destinations in the province; solutions to turn traditional medicine into a health care tourism product to serve tourists.

Also in the discussion, delegates discussed solutions to improve the quality of high-quality tourism human resources for Lao Cai ward and surrounding areas; applying digital map technology, AR/VR and automatic commentary in the experience of border urban tourism; solutions to develop Lao Cai Station into an ideal tourist attraction in the border area.

At the end of the conference, the representative of Lao Cai Ward People's Committee thanked and accepted the opinions of the delegates. In the coming time, Lao Cai Ward will focus on solutions to implement 12 tasks, exploiting potentials and strengths to develop tourism, striving to become a regional connection center, an indispensable stop on the journey to explore the Northwest region, worthy of the position of an international trade gateway.
