A young man lost a third of his arm in a meat grinder accident.

On June 17, specialist doctor Le Tan Thanh, Head of the Department of Microsurgery and Orthopedics, Xuyen A General Hospital (HCMC), said that patient T. was admitted to the hospital with his forearm crushed by a meat grinder, causing the muscle tissue to be crushed and the forearm to be severed, with a wound that amputated the lower third of his right forearm.

The medical team performed emergency surgery to repair the patient's amputated limb, meticulously cutting and cleaning to be able to save part of the patient's upper forearm.

Currently, Mr. T. continues to be monitored and his health is stable.

Previously, patient LTBH (38 years old, residing in Hoc Mon district, Ho Chi Minh City) was also taken to Xuyen A General Hospital for emergency treatment in a painful state due to a bleeding wound in the ear, neck and chest area caused by the meat grinder that caught his hair and pulled the left side of his head and face while he was working. The wound caused swelling and bleeding in the jaw and face area with multiple cuts lasting 15 cm.

The doctors of the Emergency Department treated the wound, activated the red alert procedure, transferred patient H. to the operating room for emergency surgery, and sutured the wound. During the surgery, the medical team determined that this was a complex facial wound that broke the lower jaw bone in the chin area and the right vertical branch. After 2 hours of surgery, the doctors rescued the patient from the critical condition due to hemorrhagic shock and stabilized the wound.

Doctor Thanh recommends that people should be careful when using equipment such as meat grinders, and practice occupational safety to prevent tragic accidents. Accidents and injuries in daily life and work are something no one wants. However, with just a little negligence, any accident can happen to anyone and leave extremely serious consequences. Therefore, in the process of daily life and work, people must be extremely careful.

"Production and business establishments need to organize regular training and occupational safety and hygiene training for workers to minimize occupational accidents. At the same time, employers must provide adequate protective gear and coordinate with medical facilities to organize first aid training to promptly handle emergency situations that may occur at the workplace," Dr. Thanh shared.
