The 114-page, 35-article document is the first official statement of a law on vices and virtues in Afghanistan since the Taliban took power in 2021.

The laws would give the Taliban the power to regulate individual behavior, imposing penalties such as warnings or arrests if law enforcement agencies accuse Afghans of breaking the law.

Among the new regulations, Article 13 stipulates that women must cover their faces at all times in public to avoid seduction and seduction of others. Clothing must not be thin, tight or short.

Women are also obliged to cover their faces in front of non-Muslim men and women.

Women's voices were considered private and therefore they should not be heard singing, reciting poetry or reading aloud in public. Women were forbidden to look at men they were not related to by blood or marriage and vice versa.

"We assure you that this Islamic law will be of great help in promoting virtue and eradicating vices," Taliban spokesman Maulvi Abdul Ghafar Farooq said of the new law on August 22.

Last month, a United Nations report said the Taliban had contributed to a climate of fear and intimidation among the Afghan people through its decrees and the way they enforced them.
