On rainy days, Mr. Hieu and members of the Tu Tam volunteer group followed the edge of the rice field to hand over the house to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Thom's family, residing in Ranh Hat hamlet, Binh Giang commune. The prefabricated house has an area of 24 square meters , with corrugated iron roof and walls. The total cost of the house was 36 million VND, of which Mr. Hieu mobilized the Hon Dat Association for the Support of Poor Patients to support 17 million VND, and the rest was mobilized by the Tu Tam volunteer group from the people. The house is small and simple, but it has been the dream of Mr. Thom's family for many years. Mr. Thom emotionally said: "My wife and I work hard to earn money to raise our two children, so where do we get the money to build and repair the house? The thatched house is crooked, I patch the holes, and we prop up the rotten pillars with sticks. During the rainy season, the whole family has to sleep at a relative's house. My family is very happy that Mr. Hieu and the Tu Tam volunteer group mobilized us to rebuild the house. Now my wife and I work hard to take care of our children's education." Mr. Thom's house is one of five houses that Mr. Hieu and the Tu Tam volunteer group have mobilized to build since the beginning of the year.
Talking about his affinity with volunteering, Mr. Hieu said: “Since I was young, I followed my grandfather, father and uncles in the pagoda to do volunteer work. When building bridges and roads, when giving gifts to the poor, volunteering has become a habit for me. When I see difficult situations, I find ways to support. No matter how much, it helps them have the motivation to overcome difficulties and have faith in life.” Since 2016, when participating in the Youth Union work in the locality, Mr. Hieu has had more opportunities to learn about difficult situations to help.
Initially, Mr. Hieu and his group mainly mobilized local people and businesses. When there was a case in need of help, the group would survey and post information on social networks. Mr. Hieu carefully recorded the amount of money contributed by benefactors. After completing the support, he made public the list of contributors, thereby creating trust among benefactors, including overseas Vietnamese who sent donations. In addition to supporting the construction of charity houses, Mr. Hieu and his group also participated in the movement to build rural traffic bridges, contributing to the locality's construction of new rural areas. Not stopping there, Mr. Hieu and the Tu Tam volunteer group also mobilized to give many gifts to students in difficult circumstances; mobilized emergency support for serious illnesses in and outside the commune.
On holidays and Tet, Mr. Hieu and his group organize welfare gift giving programs; regularly visit and give gifts to those in difficult circumstances without any shelter... Mr. Hieu said: "There are times when there are too many circumstances, too many activities happening at the same time, my group and I mobilize all our resources but still do not have enough to carry out, I want to stop, but thinking about the difficult circumstances, I try to try again. When I have no more strength, no more supporters and no more difficult circumstances, then I will stop."
