Strengthen "multiply the good, eliminate the bad"!

Báo Lào CaiBáo Lào Cai21/06/2023

The folk saying: "Good news travels near, bad news travels far" is to make a relatively accurate comment about a common psychology in society, bad things are often easily rumored, exaggerated, one tells ten, ten tells a hundred, spread faster and farther in public opinion, good things are not easily known by public opinion. Therefore, good people and good deeds must be propagated more, praised more as well as rewarded, encouraged and motivated more. This is one of the tasks and missions of revolutionary journalism.

Strengthening

President Ho Chi Minh - The great teacher of Vietnam's revolutionary press - The founder and founder of Vietnam's revolutionary press, pointed out: Writing and journalism is "revolutionary work" to "serve the Fatherland", "serve the people", "serve the class and humanity". "The press is a front", "The pen is a sharp weapon, the article is a revolutionary proclamation" [1]. Therefore, "press cadres are also revolutionary soldiers. The pen and paper are their sharp weapons"; the team of journalists "must have a firm political stance. Politics must be mastered. If the political line is correct, then everything else will be correct. Therefore, all our newspapers must have a correct political line". He advised journalists before picking up the pen to ask themselves the questions: "Write for what?", "Write what? Write for whom? How to write?" - The most profound lesson for journalists today.

During his revolutionary career, President Ho Chi Minh wrote and published over 2,000 articles and nearly 300 poems, 500 pages of stories and memoirs, under many different pen names. Not only was he a sharp writer and an outstanding journalist, President Ho Chi Minh was also the embodiment of an outstanding cultural figure - he was the symbol of the harmonious combination of the quintessence of national culture and human culture - Ho Chi Minh culture. The late Prime Minister Pham Van Dong wrote: " Ho Chi Minh is tall but not far, new but not strange, great but not pretending to be great, shining but not overwhelming, meeting for the first time already feels close for a long time". The simple example of President Ho Chi Minh is reflected in his daily life - that is a pure private life, a simple, honest private life and that is also Ho Chi Minh's journalistic style.

Ho Chi Minh's journalistic style is close, easy to understand, easy to remember and very ordinary. He was especially interested in setting examples of good people and good deeds to propagate and educate the masses. He said : "A living example is worth more than a hundred propaganda speeches" [2], He emphasized: "Each good person and each good deed is a beautiful flower, our whole nation is a beautiful flower forest" [3]. He believed that good people and good deeds are everywhere, in every industry, every gender, every locality, every age. His teachings on the propaganda work of the press remain intact today.

The press's increased reporting and highlighting of good people and good deeds is contributing to the formation of a system of humanistic values, fostering and arousing the spirit of compassion of the public; enhancing self-awareness and readiness to sacrifice personal interests for the common interests of the community, the interests of the class and the nation. Practice shows that propagating and widely spreading positive aspects in economic and social life not only has great significance in the struggle for national independence in the past, but is also a driving force for the cause of innovation and national development today. " Embracing the good, eliminating the bad", "using the positive to repel the negative" has always been the guiding motto of our Party and State in propaganda work to build a positive, progressive and humane society.

In recent years, in order to constantly promote the strength, role and mission of revolutionary journalism, our Party and State have always paid special attention to and led the press, accordingly, the Vietnamese press has continuously developed strongly in both quantity and quality. According to data from the Ministry of Information and Communications, to date, Vietnam has 808 press agencies, including 138 newspapers and 670 magazines. And there are currently 42,400 people working in the field of journalism, of which 24,000 are in print and electronic newspapers [4]. The press has become an important bridge between the Party, the State and the People, always accompanying the development of the country.

The team of journalists is constantly developing in all aspects, especially in their pioneering and frontline roles on the ideological and cultural front. The maturity and steadfastness in capacity, political qualities, professional qualifications and skills of the press team nationwide are increasingly affirmed, which are the quality press works awarded with annual press awards organized by the Vietnam Journalists Association as well as central and local agencies, ministries and branches. Through press awards, it is also a form of honoring journalists with the best press works, which is the recognition and evaluation of organizations for the achievements of work and press activities of authors, in order to encourage and motivate the creativity of journalists nationwide.

However, looking at the journalistic works that have received attention and even been honored in recent years, it can be seen that the majority of them are mainly "thorny", "hot", "sensitive" works that reflect negative issues and dark aspects of society. These topics still seem to dominate, and it is even a trend that authors, readers, and judges "prioritize" over other groups of topics. It seems that few journalistic works that reflect positive factors, bright spots, models of socio-economic development, and examples of good people and good deeds... are invested in and given the proper attention.

Perhaps, the negative phenomena in society are taking place with increasing and complex trends, which has unintentionally created many journalistic works on the topic of fighting negativity. Or the press awards of organizations in recent years have inspired authors to delve into this topic... It is very difficult to clearly answer what the reason is... While fighting against the bad, the evil, the negative has never been peaceful, calm and it is always a hot topic attracting journalists to commit.

There was a time when negative information flooded the press and media. This official or that cadre was disciplined due to many violations, negativity, corruption, and law violations... stories about province A, organization B, event C... people abusing their positions and powers, violating democratic centralism, leading to many serious violations that required disciplinary action, prosecution, and arrest... This type of news unintentionally created a gray picture covering public opinion.

It must be affirmed that the press has contributed significantly to the fight against corruption, bureaucracy, waste, etc. Many negative cases have been exposed by the press and brought to the public... But there are also many shortcomings, many press activities are not in line with the purpose and objectives, and there are negative aspects in press activities... Accordingly, not only businesses but also many honest officials are very apprehensive about the press, even some officials and officials are terrified of official and unofficial reporters who take advantage of the fight against negativity to threaten... force related subjects to bribe, give money..., the consequences have led to many reporters being arrested for extortion...

With its special role, the press has the duty to pioneer, discover, reflect, and criticize negative issues, conservatism, stagnation, and backwardness, resolutely fight against evil, not tolerate, not compromise with negativity, in order to make all information transparent for the people to know. This is the activity of genuine journalism, thereby contributing to strengthening the people's trust in the leadership of our Party and State.

There is a saying that “each flag has its own movement”. However, to push back the bad and negative things, the press should also increase propaganda, set more examples of good people, good deeds, positive factors, bright spots in economic - cultural - social development… More importantly, it is to bring pure light to the community, push back, narrow and gradually erase the darkness, to spread the good things happening in the community so that the social picture has more positive colors and more meaning.

Should the Vietnam Journalists Association, central and local ministries and branches encourage, invest, motivate, and award more prizes to journalistic works on topics reflecting and propagating good people and good deeds instead of letting the topic of fighting against negativity dominate? Commendation and reward in general are always a great source of encouragement and motivation for organizations and individuals as well as any field, any work... It is not only a valuable reward in terms of material and spirit for the recipients, it is also the main driving force to create creative emulation activities, production labor... in the social community.

Good people and good deeds must be promoted more, praised, rewarded, and encouraged more to increase " multiplying the good, eliminating the bad", "the positive pushes back the negative". Fighting, condemning, and eliminating the bad is necessary, but if the press and media focus too much on reflecting the bad and negative, they will unintentionally let the bad and negative overshadow public opinion, overwhelm the positive and good that are still happening every day in society./.
