With the expectation and trust in the policy being put into practice, the teaching staff wishes for the allowance system to be adjusted appropriately, linked to work efficiency and level of dedication. Thereby, ensuring fairness but not equalization, creating motivation for teachers to strive.

Joy and expectation

Before the news that the salary is expected to be adjusted to increase by 2 - 7 million VND/month, Ms. Bui Thi Thanh Thuy - Principal of Phuoc Loc Kindergarten (Tuy Phuoc, Gia Lai ) could not hide her joy and emotion. Ms. Thuy said that preschool teachers often have to pick up children very early and drop them off late, the actual working time can be up to 9 - 10 hours per day. Therefore, compared to other levels of education, preschool teachers are under greater pressure both in terms of work and expectations from family and society.

According to Principal Bui Thi Thanh Thuy, the latest point is that teachers' salaries will be linked to a specific coefficient, calculated based on the actual job position of teachers by grade level and region. This specific coefficient table is adjusted based on reality, with special priorities for preschool teachers and teachers working in remote, difficult areas. Therefore, teachers expect and hope that the salary increase will be implemented soon.

“We just hope to make enough money to devote ourselves to teaching. When life becomes more stable, our spirits will surely be lifted and the quality of teaching will improve,” Ms. Thuy confided.

Similarly, Ms. Duong Thi Nguyet - Principal of Doan Ket Kindergarten (Doan Ket, Lai Chau ) shared: “Working in a favorable area of Lai Chau province, with the current salary, teachers have only temporarily stabilized their lives. We fully support and expect that this salary increase policy will soon be put into practice; at the same time, we hope that the State will continue to listen to voices from the grassroots to ensure that teachers can truly live with peace of mind, teach with peace of mind, and contribute with peace of mind.”

Mr. Le Cao Ban - Principal of Nam Ngan Secondary School (Ham Rong, Thanh Hoa) commented that the salary increase adjustment shows the attention of the Party and State to the staff, teachers and employees of the Education sector. We hope that the policy will soon come into life, helping to stabilize and improve the quality of life, creating motivation for the team of managers, teachers and employees to feel secure in their work and concentrate on their profession.

Sharing the same view, Mr. Dang Xuan Vien - Principal of Thanh Xuan Primary School (Phu Xuan, Thanh Hoa) said that in the highlands, salary is almost the only source of income for teachers. If adjusted to increase, it will certainly help reduce financial pressure, creating more motivation for teachers to feel secure in staying at school and in class.

Retaining teachers in mountainous areas

In the disadvantaged commune of Tu Mo Rong (Quang Ngai), Kim Dong Primary School is where teachers and students overcome many challenges to maintain their studies. The whole school has 708 students, divided into 28 classes at 3 satellite schools and 1 central school. Of these, 25 students stay at the boarding school from Monday to Friday, 22 students facing difficulties are supported with breakfast and lunch by teachers and benefactors.

As a teacher at the school, Ms. Nong Thi Tuyet expressed her joy when hearing the news about the increase in basic salary for the teaching staff. With the current income still quite modest, this increase not only improves the material life but also motivates teachers to stay in class, stay in school, and continue to contribute to the education career.

Ms. Nong Thi Tuyet hopes that the salary increase needs to be implemented synchronously, transparently, and in accordance with the characteristics of each region, while maintaining special allowances for teachers in remote areas. This is an important source of support to help teachers stay with the profession for a long time and with students in disadvantaged areas. Not only teaching, Ms. Tuyet and her colleagues also voluntarily contribute money, mobilize parents and benefactors to organize breakfast and lunch for poor and orphaned students.

“We want the students not to miss meals, to ensure their health and to feel secure going to class. If teachers’ lives improve, we will have the conditions to share more with disadvantaged students,” Ms. Tuyet shared.

From the perspective of managing a boarding school for ethnic minorities in a particularly difficult area, Mr. Nguyen Van Quy - Vice Principal of Muong Ly Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities - Secondary School (Thanh Hoa) expressed that increasing salary is a very good thing. But what many teachers in remote areas expect more is that allowances need to be calculated correctly, fully, and reflect the actual working conditions and level of dedication. We expect to have a stable and long-term salary policy so that teachers can feel secure in their profession.

In fact, attracting teachers to work in Lai Chau is still difficult. Currently, the whole province lacks 1,099 teachers according to the standards of the Ministry of Education and Training. Mr. Mac Quang Dung - Director of Lai Chau Department of Education and Training hopes that with a suitable salary and incentive regime, teachers from the lowlands will be attracted to work in Lai Chau, especially in remote, isolated and border areas. From there, it will contribute to overcoming the shortage of teachers, ensuring that education in the highlands of Lai Chau will have stable progress and comprehensive development in the coming time."

Fair but not "equal"

Many education managers in Thanh Hoa believe that, in addition to adjusting the basic salary, it is necessary to review and comprehensively reform the current allowance system. Because salary is only a part of the total income, while allowances do not fully reflect the nature of the job, especially for homeroom teachers or teachers working in difficult areas.

Mr. Nguyen Van Giang - Principal of Muong Lat Primary and Secondary School (Muong Lat, Thanh Hoa) proposed that the allowance system should be adjusted appropriately. Income policy should be linked to work efficiency and level of dedication, not just based on seniority or administrative position. Salary reform should go hand in hand with innovation in evaluating teachers' working capacity. Avoid the situation of "leveling" between those with outstanding contributions and those who only fulfill the minimum job requirements.

The 2025-2026 school year is the first year that Nguyen Canh Chan High School (Dai Dong, Nghe An) has implemented 2-session teaching/day. In which, grade 10 studies 8 sessions/week, grade 11 and 12 study 10-11 sessions/week depending on the registration of students in each class. The content of the 2nd session enhancement program includes training excellent students, tutoring knowledge for students who have not met the requirements and reviewing for final exams, all of which are being taught for free by teachers.

Principal Nguyen Van Thuan said that salary reform for teachers is a policy support, creating favorable conditions for the school to implement teaching 2 sessions/day. In particular, the salary regime when calculated according to the job position, capacity and dedication of teachers is a great motivation for teachers to feel secure in their dedication, complete their tasks well; strive to improve their professional qualifications, and innovate in teaching.

However, what teachers are concerned about is that in addition to salary, seniority allowances, position allowances, and concurrent positions... also need to be appropriate, worthy, appropriate for the right person, right job, and ensure fairness and commensurate with the labor, capacity, and dedication of teachers.

Mr. Thai Van Thanh - Director of Nghe An Department of Education and Training affirmed that the issuance of Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW has created joy and excitement for the teaching staff across the country. The Resolution has many strong, superior, outstanding, and breakthrough policies; in which special attention is paid to the salary and income regime for the teaching staff. When the teaching staff has an environment and opportunities to be creative, developed, and honored, it is associated with the responsibility to promote autonomy, creativity, dedication, and dedication to the cause of educating people.

According to Mr. Thai Van Thanh - Director of Nghe An Department of Education and Training, this period is the "golden period" of education when the teaching staff is given attention, from salary, allowances, seniority regime, priority is given to attracting talented teachers from disadvantaged areas.

With the superior policies that have been specified in important resolutions of the Politburo and most recently Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW, schools and teachers also need to uphold their responsibility towards the Party, the State and the people.
