A series of schools had their roofs blown off and were flooded.
On the morning of September 29, Nghe An province still had heavy rain and strong winds. Ms. Nguyen Binh Minh - education officer, People's Committee of Cua Lo ward said that in coastal areas, many schools in the area were severely damaged by storm Bualoi despite careful preparation and reinforcement work.

Nghi Thu Primary School, Le Thi Bach Cat Secondary School... had their classrooms' roofs blown off, many old trees were uprooted and lying in disarray. At Hai Hoa Secondary School, the entire corrugated iron roof of a 3-story classroom building was blown down by the storm wind and fell into the school yard. The corrugated iron roof of the outdoor stage was also destroyed. By noon on September 29, the road leading to the school was still flooded with nearly 1 meter of water, making it impossible to access to repair the damage.

Meanwhile, near Cua Lo seaport, Nghi Thuy Kindergarten and Nghi Tan Kindergarten were flooded into the classrooms. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien - Principal of Nghi Thuy Kindergarten (Cua Lo) sadly said: "Our school was the most severely damaged unit in the ward due to the previous storm No. 5, completely blowing off the roof of the classrooms. The repair work had just stabilized, but now it suffered damage from storm Bualoi. This time, the high tide combined with water from the river mouths and heavy rain caused the school to be flooded about 1 meter deep."

In Truong Vinh ward, Hung Hoa Primary School was flooded, the corrugated iron roof of the 4th-5th grade classrooms was blown off. In addition, 10 trees of the school were broken, 40 fences collapsed, and the corrugated iron roof in front of the kitchen collapsed. At Hung Dung 1 Primary School, many trees were uprooted and the signboards were damaged.
In Do Luong commune, Thinh Son Primary School had half of its roof blown off. Also in the commune, Da Son Primary School had its corrugated iron roof blown off, was flooded, and many trees were broken. Nguyen Quoc Tri Secondary School also had its corrugated iron roof blown off by trees.

During the discussion, Mr. Phan Ba Dong - Principal of Da Son Primary School said: In just over a month, our school was hit by storms twice and both times suffered heavy damage. Last time, more than 400 square meters of the student parking lot was completely blown off and overturned. This time, the entire corrugated iron roof of the school's administrative building was blown away. This will certainly affect the school's teaching and learning activities and cannot be resolved soon.

In the mountainous area, prolonged heavy rains collapsed the fence of Yen Hoa Ethnic Minority Primary School. The Pa Ty hamlet of Yen Tinh Ethnic Minority Primary School suffered a landslide. Hoan Long Primary School (Tan Phu Commune) also had its classroom roof blown off and water flooded into the office area. The disaster occurred at night, during the weekend, so the safety of the school's staff, teachers, and students was not affected.
Ensure safety before returning to school
By the morning of September 29, the work of overcoming the consequences of the storm at schools in Cua Lo ward had not been significantly implemented due to the severe damage over a large area. The principal of Nghi Thuy Kindergarten said that yesterday, the school teachers had raised the furniture and children's belongings in the classrooms, and the machinery and equipment in the administrative rooms but were still flooded. In addition, the dish dryer system, water purifier, and utensils in the boarding kitchen were also soaked in water and at risk of being damaged beyond repair. Many teachers with many years of experience in the school said that the school had never been affected by such a heavy storm as this year.

The water is gradually receding from the school, but the surrounding traffic is still cut off, and there are still power and water outages. The school mobilized teachers living nearby to come and push mud out of classrooms and the school yard according to the plan of "cleaning as the water recedes". Once there is water and electricity, we will continue to re-examine all the school's facilities and equipment and gradually fix them. Only when safety and teaching conditions are guaranteed will the school welcome children back.

According to Do Luong commune, storm No. 10 last night severely affected many schools in the commune, especially schools such as Van Son Kindergarten, Nguyen Quoc Tri Secondary School, Nam Son Primary School, Dang Son Primary School, etc.

Ms. Tran Thi Nhu Ngoc - Head of the Commune's Department of Culture and Society said: Right after the storm, we asked schools to report in detail on the damage and up to this point, many schools said that the roofs of classrooms, kitchens, functional rooms were blown off and trees were broken, causing very heavy damage. In the immediate future, the commune directed schools to focus on overcoming and repairing the damage and students and teachers will return to school when safety is ensured.

Although there has been no official announcement, the situation of trees and plants lying around after the storm is quite common in schools in Truong Vinh, Vinh Phu, and Thanh Vinh wards. This morning, the cleanup has not been done because it is still raining in the wards and communes, many places are flooded, and traffic is cut off. If the situation is not resolved in time this afternoon, it will be difficult to return to normal school tomorrow morning.

Regarding the issue of students returning to school, previously in Document No. 2937/SGD&DT dated September 28 of the Nghe An Department of Education and Training, it was stated that from Tuesday (September 30), educational institutions will proactively monitor the storm's developments and post-storm circulation. If necessary, students will be allowed to stay home from school to ensure absolute safety and avoid unfortunate accidents.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoan - Chief of Office of Nghe An Department of Education and Training said: Based on the initial preliminary assessment, the damage to schools in the area due to storm Bualoi is very heavy, some mountainous communes have started to see rising water causing flooding of classrooms and cutting off students' way to school. In the immediate future, the Department directs schools to focus on cleaning, repairing classrooms, and repairing damage. If safety is not ensured, students will not go to school.
