On January 2, the Navy announced that ship 991 of Submarine Brigade 189 of this unit successfully rescued the Petrolimex 11 ship.

According to information from the Navy, on the afternoon of January 1, the Petrolimex 11 ship with a capacity of more than 40,000 tons was carrying goods from Malaysia to Hon Gai port (Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province). When passing through the waters of Khanh Hoa province, its steering system broke down and it lost its ability to maneuver.

Upon receiving the news, the Navy Command dispatched ship 991 to rescue the vehicle in distress at sea.

Despite the big waves and level 6 and 7 winds, the Navy's ships overcame difficulties to approach and rescue the Petrolimex 11 ship.

At 10:00 a.m. on January 2, ship 991 successfully rescued and brought the Petrolimex 11 ship safely to the anchorage in Binh Thuan province.

Lieutenant Colonel Dinh Van Thuong, Deputy Chief of Staff, Submarine Brigade 189, said that this was the first time the unit's forces had carried out a rescue mission on a 40,000-ton ship.

"Although the mission is extremely difficult due to complex weather conditions, the unit is always ready to receive and determined to complete it well," Lieutenant Colonel Dinh Van Thuong shared.
