Consult on the draft action plan to implement the Project on emission reduction production in the crop production sector

(CT) - On October 22, Mr. Hoang Trung, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment (MARD) chaired a conference to announce the Project on emission reduction in the crop production sector for the period 2025-2035, with a vision to 2050, and consult on the draft action plan to implement the Project. The conference was held in Hanoi and connected online with many points across the country.

The project on emission reduction in the crop production sector for the period 2025-2035, with a vision to 2050, was issued by the Minister of Agriculture and Environment with Decision No. 4024/QD-BNNMT dated September 29, 2025. The project aims to synchronously deploy solutions to promote the transformation of the crop production system towards low emissions, adaptation to climate change, increasing income, improving livelihoods for people and sustainable development. Thereby, helping to improve the competitiveness of the crop production sector, ensuring national food security, gradually forming a modern, ecological agriculture that is resilient to the impacts of climate change.

The project sets out specific targets to be achieved by 2035: striving for the crop sector to contribute to reducing at least 15% of total greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2020; building and developing “low emission” labels for products of the crop industry; building and issuing at least 5 emission reduction production technical packages applicable to key crops. To implement the Project in a synchronous, timely, unified and effective manner, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development directed the focal unit, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, to draft the Project Implementation Plan and promptly collect comments from relevant parties to complete it, so that the Ministry can soon promulgate and implement it. The draft Project Implementation Plan clearly identified the objectives, requirements, main tasks and assignment of implementation, as well as funding and implementation organization.

According to Mr. Hoang Trung, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, the Conference not only announced the Project but also served as a forum for consultation on major orientations of the crop production sector, where the intelligence, experience and responsibility of the entire sector were gathered to move towards a substantial transformation in farming practices and awareness of the entire sector. This project will only be successful if each level, each sector and each locality deeply realizes that emission reduction is not just a technical solution applied but also a synchronization in production organization to work towards a common goal.

At the conference, delegates contributed many ideas to help build a complete and specific action plan, mobilizing the participation of the entire political system and community, especially the response from the private sector.
