The candidate proposed for recognition as the youngest professor in 2025 is Associate Professor Dr. Vo Hoang Hung, born in 1987, from Vinh Long , currently holding the position of Head of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Information Technology, Saigon University. Previously, in January 2021, he was one of the four youngest associate professors in the country to be recognized.

Impressive track record

From a young age, Associate Professor Dr. Vo Hoang Hung showed a special talent for Mathematics. While in primary school, he was able to solve advanced problems ahead of his class, surprising his teachers.

Throughout middle school and high school, he was always among the top students in Mathematics. In grade 10, Hung won the Gold Medal of the 30/4 Olympic despite an unfortunate accident before the exam that broke his arm. In grade 11, he participated in the Mekong Delta Excellent Student Competition, a playground for grade 12 students, but still excelled and won first prize.

In grade 12, Vo Hoang Hung, a student at Ly Tu Trong High School for the Gifted ( Can Tho ), won third prize in the national math competition for gifted students. This achievement was even more special because, in the previous 10 years, this school had never had a student win a prize in that prestigious national competition.

Although he was admitted to the Construction Engineering Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, he chose to study at the University of Natural Sciences , pursuing a bachelor's degree and graduating with honors.

At the end of 2011, he simultaneously received three international doctoral scholarships and decided to choose the Marie Curie scholarship at the University of Paris VI (France). In 2014, he successfully defended his doctoral thesis in Analytical Mathematics and Partial Differential Equations.

In 2015, he returned to Vietnam to work in many units, before joining Saigon University from 2018 to present.

7 Q1 papers in 5 years, Outstanding Mathematics Work Award

Associate Professor, Dr. Vo Hoang Hung was in charge of two ministerial-level scientific projects before being recognized as Associate Professor, including: Diffusion reaction equation and inverse problems applied in biology (accepted in 2020) and Nafosted project Some free boundary problems in Mathematical Biology and inverse problems (accepted in 2021).

To date, he has published 23 scientific articles, of which 12 were published after becoming Associate Professor and he is the main author of 10 of them. Many works have been published in Q1 journals, the most prestigious and high-quality group in the field of Mathematics. In the period 2020-2025, he had 7 articles ranked Q1.

In 2023, Associate Professor Dr. Vo Hoang Hung was awarded the Outstanding Mathematics Work Award by the Ministry of Education and Training. This award is given every three years to honor and encourage scientists with high-quality publications, making practical contributions to the goals of the National Key Program for Mathematics Development in the 2021-2030 period.

Young teacher devoted to the classroom and the next generation

In addition to research, Associate Professor Dr. Vo Hoang Hung also stands out in his teaching role. According to his profile, he has been teaching for more than 10 years and 5 months, with the number of teaching hours exceeding the norm for many consecutive years. In the last three years alone, his direct teaching hours have always been one and a half to nearly double the required number. This shows the dedication and perseverance of a young lecturer.

He not only imparts knowledge in the university lecture hall, but also actively participates in postgraduate training. Up to now, he has successfully guided two PhD students to defend their theses at the University of Natural Sciences (VNU-HCM). This is a remarkable result, because for a scientist in his thirties, having PhD students is a clear demonstration of professional prestige.

In addition, from 2019 to present, he has also been responsible for training the Student Math Olympiad team in Analysis of Saigon University. Under his leadership, the team has won awards every year, contributing to motivating students to love Mathematics and enhancing the position of the school.

Not only stopping at the role of research and teaching, Associate Professor Dr. Vo Hoang Hung also actively participates in building and developing new training programs at Saigon University. He is a member of the drafting board of the undergraduate Data Science program, participates in the project to open a master's program in Elementary Mathematical Methods and contributes to evaluating and updating the doctoral program in Analytical Mathematics. These are all important steps, associated with the need for high-quality human resources in the current context.

He is also present in many international academic events held in Vietnam. From the Eastern Schools on partial differential equations, mathematical models and dynamical systems, to the International Summer School on Mathematics and Biology, Associate Professor Dr. Hung both participates in organizing and directly teaches. These activities not only help him update new knowledge, but also bring students and young researchers in the country closer to modern mathematical trends.

In his self-assessment sent to the Council of Professors, he affirmed that he always maintains pure ethics, a simple lifestyle, honesty, loves his job and has prestige with colleagues and students.

Compared to 2024, the number of candidates proposed by the Basic Professor Councils for recognition as meeting the standards for the titles of professor and associate professor this year has increased sharply.

Of the total 933 candidates, there are 89 professor candidates (up 26 from last year) and 844 associate professor candidates (up 234), spanning across various disciplines and interdisciplinary fields.

The Economics sector leads with 153 candidates, including 11 professors and 142 associate professors. Next is the Medicine sector with 124 candidates (15 professors, 109 associate professors), maintaining the second position as last year. The third position is the interdisciplinary Chemistry - Food Technology.

Meanwhile, some majors with the fewest number of candidates are Mechanics and Hydraulics with only 7 people, History - Archaeology - Ethnology/Anthropology (6 people), Metallurgy (3 people), Literature (1 person).
