As the rainy season approaches, nearly a dozen households in Ward 1 (Tuy Hoa Ward) living at the foot of Nhan Mountain are losing sleep over the fear of landslides. Many households have submitted petitions to the local government asking for assistance in moving to new residences.
Over the past few days of rain, streams of muddy, red water have flowed from Nhan Mountain down to the small hamlet, raising concerns for many households living near the foot of this mountain.
Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc said: "People saw that the rainwater flowing down from the mountain was red, so they were very worried, afraid that the cracks on the mountainside were unstable, threatening the lives and property of dozens of people here."

Working group inspected the landslide behind Mr. Nguyen Phuc Huy's house. |
Mr. Nguyen Phuc Huy's family's level 4 house is located right at the foot of Nhan mountain. Behind his house, looking up, you can see a long crack running along the mountainside.
Mr. Huy said: “This crack has appeared for many years, I feel like it is getting wider and wider. Just last time, on the other side of the cliff, a large tree was uprooted and fell into the backyard, luckily no one was injured. Now where the tree was uprooted, there is a big hole. This rainy season, I am very afraid that heavy rain will cause landslides in that location."
Mr. Huy's family felt insecure living next to the landslide foothills, so they submitted a petition to the local government asking for early support and to create conditions for them to move to a safer place.

The team surveyed many landslide areas of Nhan mountain. |
Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Lieu, who lives a few houses away from Mr. Huy's house, worried: "There are uprooted trees above the pit, and the old temple's wall has big cracks, so people here are worried that the foundation is gradually sinking. The rainy season is approaching, so people in the neighborhood tell each other to always be on high alert, and if they hear any strange noises from behind their houses, they will rush to the neighborhood's cultural house or to the communal house or barn to stay temporarily. However, this is only a temporary solution."
According to Ms. Lieu, the biggest wish of the people now is to receive resettlement support from the government so that everyone can move their houses and assets to a safe place, stabilize their lives, and make a living with peace of mind.

The wall of the old temple halfway up Nhan mountain was cracked open. |
Many years ago, when Nhan Mountain began to experience landslides, to ensure the safety of households living around the mountain, the local government supported people to move to new places. According to the plan, nearly 20 households would be relocated. However, for many reasons, at that time, more than a dozen households agreed to relocate, the rest still lived in the same place.
Recently, a working delegation of the Department of Agriculture and Environment led by Mr. Nguyen An Phu, Deputy Director of the Department, along with representatives of Tuy Hoa ward inspected the landslide situation at Nhan mountain and some key points to propose and handle the situation during the rainy season of 2025.
Mr. Phu said: “With the functions and duties of the department, we quickly went to inspect and sent documents to localities to properly prepare for storms and floods, with the spirit of prevention being the main focus; proactively developing response plans to avoid being passive and surprised when natural disasters occur at key points. For the Nhan mountain landslide area, Tuy Hoa ward must try to assess the current situation and grasp the people's situation to have opinions and proposals to the competent authorities to resolve, helping people to stabilize their lives soon."
According to Tuy Hoa ward, while immediate evacuation is not possible, the locality has mobilized and requested households living in this area to move to relatives' houses temporarily during rain and storms to ensure their safety.
