Sacred candle lighting ceremony to honor heroic martyrs

On the evening of July 26, on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2025), at Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery (Quang Tri province), the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union chaired and coordinated with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the People's Committee of Quang Tri province to solemnly organize a candle lighting ceremony to pay tribute to national heroic martyrs.

Attending and speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that in the thousands of years of history of building and defending the country, successive dynasties have defeated many invaders; maintaining the independence and freedom of the nation. Many generations of ancestors have sacrificed to have the country as it is today.

Generations in the Ho Chi Minh era continue to inherit and promote that heroic spirit and spirit to achieve many brilliant and glorious feats, continue to write golden pages in the nation's history, and bring the Vietnamese nation on par with other independent, free, peaceful and developed nations in the world.

In a solemn and emotional atmosphere, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, leaders of ministries and sectors and people respectfully offered flowers, incense and observed a moment of silence to commemorate the merits of President Ho Chi Minh and the heroic martyrs who heroically sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.

According to the Prime Minister, in the resistance wars to save the country, the border protection wars and the noble international missions of the 20th century, our country had about 1.2 million martyrs. Of these, more than 300,000 people have not yet found full information, and 175,000 soldiers and martyrs have not yet determined their place of death.

“Our country is honored and proud to have given birth to heroic martyrs – those who have made the country glorious. Our Party, State and people will forever remember the great contributions of heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland; for the happiness of the people. Today's generation vows to live, fight, work and study worthy of that noble sacrifice,” Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emotionally expressed.

According to the Organizing Committee, Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery is the resting place of more than 10,263 martyrs, most of whom heroically sacrificed their lives on the legendary Ho Chi Minh trail. Choosing this place as the venue for the National Candlelight Ceremony shows deep gratitude, and is a reminder to the younger generation of the great sacrifices of previous generations, especially in Quang Tri - one of the most fierce "fire coordinates" of the war.

At the same time, across the country , thousands of gratitude candles were lit simultaneously at martyr cemeteries and memorials from North to South. The candles lit not only commemorate but also symbolize gratitude, the morality of "drinking water, remember its source", "eating fruit, remember the person who planted the tree" is preserved and promoted by generations of young people today.

On this occasion, within the framework of gratitude activities, remembering the source of drinking water to commemorate the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, towards the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh presented 80 gifts of gratitude to policy families and people with meritorious services to the revolution in the locality.

In addition, young people across the country have actively organized many practical activities such as caring for and repairing cemeteries, visiting and supporting families of wounded soldiers and martyrs, etc. In particular, the Skyline youth group has pioneered the use of AI technology to restore and give 80 martyrs' portraits to their relatives.

At the ceremony, delegates, union members and youths offered flowers, incense and lit candles at all 10,263 graves of martyrs who died on the Ho Chi Minh trail .
