The South American and Oceania World Cup qualifiers have now concluded. South America has found six teams that have qualified for the 2026 World Cup: Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, Colombia and a play-off team, Bolivia.

Similarly, the Oceania World Cup qualifiers concluded in March 2025 with New Zealand securing the official ticket to North America, while New Caledonia will play in the play-offs.

The Asian qualifying round still has 2 official spots for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in October. At that time, the 2026 FIFA World Cup will determine at least 20 participating teams.

By November, the official qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup in Europe will end. At that time, 12 more teams will have won tickets to bring the total number of teams to North America to 32. Also in November, the qualifying round for Africa will also come to an end and continue to have 7 names added to the list for the 2026 World Cup.

Similarly, the North American region with 3 qualifying teams determined in November, bringing the total number of teams to 42. After determining 42 teams, FIFA will conduct the group draw on December 5 in the US.

Thus, the 2026 World Cup will still have 6 more spots that have not been determined when the draw takes place. It will take until March 2026, after the play-off matches have ended, for the 2026 World Cup to have a full "squad" of 48 talents.

Of the 6 slots mentioned above, 4 slots are reserved for the winners of the European play-offs. The remaining 2 slots are reserved for the winners of the intercontinental play-offs.
