Prime Minister meets foreign investors: High-speed railway expected in 10 years

The North-South high-speed railway project was approved by the National Assembly in November 2024 with a total initial capital equivalent to 67 billion USD. The entire route is 1,541 km long, passing through 20 provinces and cities with a design speed of 350 km/h.

Regarding energy, the head of the Vietnamese Government informed that Vietnam plans to complete a nuclear power plant within 5 years.

Along with that, many large projects on airports, seaports, and highways are being strongly promoted, striving to have at least 3,000km of highways by 2025.

At the dialogue session, the corporations expressed their impression of Vietnam's economic growth rate of over 7% in 2024. During the discussion, businesses highly appreciated the determination and commitment of the Vietnamese Government to improve the attractive investment environment as well as the great interest and support for the business community.

Responding to the concerns of delegates, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that Vietnam has implemented a training program for 50,000 semiconductor engineers. Vietnam is committed to not having a power shortage with synchronous solutions, including developing wind power, solar power, nuclear power and importing electricity.

On this occasion, he also asked partners and investors to continue to accompany and cooperate with Vietnam in priority development areas. At the same time, he gave suggestions on building and perfecting institutions, researching and transferring advanced technology... to Vietnam.

Promoting major projects with China, FTA with the Gulf

Also on January 21 in Davos, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Dinh Tiet Tuong who was attending the WEF annual conference.

At the meeting, the head of the Vietnamese Government suggested that both sides continue to promote visits and contacts at high and all levels. At the same time, they continue to review and effectively implement signed cooperation agreements, promoting deeper connections between the two economies.

The Prime Minister also proposed focusing on implementing large, symbolic projects, especially cooperation in capital, technology and human resource training to deploy standard gauge railway lines connecting Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong in 2025 and Lang Son - Hanoi, Mong Cai - Ha Long - Hai Phong in the coming time.

Receiving Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, the Prime Minister suggested that the GCC encourage regional businesses and investment funds to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam.

The Head of Government also proposed promoting negotiations on a free trade agreement (FTA) between the GCC and Vietnam, an agreement to encourage and protect GCC-Vietnam investment, as well as sharing experiences and supporting Vietnam in building an international financial center.

For his part, the GCC Secretary General affirmed that Vietnam is on the organization's priority list for signing FTAs ​​and believes that trade cooperation between the two countries will soon have breakthrough results.

Last October, when Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited the United Arab Emirates, the two sides signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and established a Comprehensive Partnership.
