Standing Committee of Provincial People's Council works and visits Nuclear Research Institute in Da Lat

On the afternoon of March 12, the Standing Committee of the Ninh Thuan Provincial People's Council, headed by Mr. Tran Minh Luc, member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, visited the Nuclear Research Institute (NCHN) in Da Lat City (Lam Dong Province) to survey, exchange and share experiences in research and application of science and technology in the nuclear field; accompanied by leaders of the Provincial People's Council Committees; leaders of the Department of Science and Technology; and the Department of Industry and Trade.

Receiving and working with the delegation were Dr. Cao Dong Vu, Director of the Institute of Nuclear Science; Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hai and Dr. Nguyen Kien Cuong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Nuclear Science.

At the working session, the Provincial People's Council delegation listened to the leaders of the Institute of Nuclear Research give an overview of the history of formation and development process. Accordingly, the Institute of Nuclear Research is the predecessor of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute, established under Decision No. 64-CP dated April 26, 1976 of the Prime Minister. Up to now, the Institute's organization has been basically completed, with 180 officers, civil servants and workers, including 4 Associate Professors, 14 PhDs, 70 Masters, 66 university graduates who are experts and scientists researching in the nuclear field.

The leaders of the NCHN Institute introduced an overview of the history of formation and development process of the NCHN Institute.

Currently, the Institute is undertaking the functions and tasks of technical management, safe operation, and effective exploitation of the Da Lat Nuclear Reactor (NRR) and auxiliary scientific and technological equipment to serve scientific research, technical services, technology transfer, and human resource training to serve the development of nuclear science and technology in Vietnam. At the same time, it introduces the investment stages of construction and development of NRRs, technology systems, fuel, and operating time of the Da Lat NRR.

Leaders of Ninh Thuan Provincial People's Council listened to the report of the leaders of the Institute of Natural Resources and Environment.

In addition, the leaders of the Institute of Nuclear Research also introduced the implementation of atomic energy applications to provide radioactive pharmaceuticals and marking kits; provide sample analysis services, VietGAP certification; personal dose measurement services to calibrate and inspect radiation equipment; assess sedimentation of hydroelectric reservoirs; provide plant varieties and growth stimulants; training and fostering knowledge on radiation safety; develop radiation dose measurement techniques; control and warn of environmental radiation; research and protect land resources, design and manufacture nuclear electronic equipment; research and develop biotechnology; apply stable isotope techniques; strengthen international cooperation...

After that, the leaders of the Institute of Nuclear Research invited the delegation of the People's Council of Ninh Thuan province to visit the actual operation of modern machinery and equipment of the Nuclear Refinery; learn about the radioactive waste treatment and management area to ensure strict implementation of procedures, health safety of staff, experts, technicians and people in the area; visit the Traditional House storing valuable equipment, tools and artifacts of the Institute...

Speaking at the working session, the Vice Chairman of the People's Council of Ninh Thuan province thanked the leaders of the Institute of Nuclear Research for their warm welcome and sharing of management experience and operational knowledge of the Nuclear Power Plant which is very practically valuable.

The delegation will receive a lot of useful information and will advise the leaders of Ninh Thuan province in preparing to deploy investment and construction of Ninh Thuan 1 Nuclear Power Plant in Phuoc Dinh Commune (Thuan Nam) and Ninh Thuan 2 Nuclear Power Plant in Vinh Hai Commune (Ninh Hai), at the same time, strengthen propaganda so that people continue to have high consensus when investing in two nuclear power plants in Ninh Thuan. Thereby, contributing to ensuring national energy security, combating climate change, promoting economic and social growth of Ninh Thuan in particular and the whole country in general.
