Despite being carefully invested and the promotional process had the continuous participation of Korean star Lee Kwang Soo, His hand holds a star still falling into a slump at the box office, earning just over 11 billion VND after two weeks in theaters. This figure is unlikely to help investors recover their investment; moreover, it is likely to cause heavy losses when what is shown on screen shows that the project's budget can reach tens of billions of dong.
This is quite a pity because to be fair, the quality of the work is not too bad. In particular, the acting of the main actors also received quite a lot of positive feedback. And in it, Hoang Ha - in her first romantic lead role on the big screen, which is the actress's forte in the television industry - brought a relatively good performance.
However, with what has happened so far, this can hardly be considered a successful project for the actress.
Sincere Hoang Ha
His hand holds a star tells the story of the strange relationship between Jun Woo (Lee Kwang Soo) - a top Korean actor, and Thao (Hoang Ha) - a Vietnamese bartender. During a business trip, the Korean star was accidentally left behind by the crew in Ho Chi Minh City, without his wallet or documents.
In the middle of a strange city, Jun Woo struggled to find a way to get by, but continuously encountered funny and sad troubles. The climax was when he was hit by a girl named Thao, breaking his phone - the only means of "calling for help" from acquaintances. With nowhere else to go, Jun Woo had to temporarily stay with Thao while waiting for everything to be resolved.
In the film, Hoang Ha's role is a smart, hard-working girl, full of ambition and potential to fly far, but is held back by difficult circumstances. It is easy to see that this is a fairly familiar character type, not much different from the female image in the "modern Cinderella" motif. This way of portraying partly shows safety, somewhat lacking in creativity. However, Thao's simplicity and independence sometimes also bring an interesting balance when placed next to Jun Woo - a famous but insecure star.

The two clearly have too many differences, not only in language, nationality or background - things that immediately catch the audience's eye, but also in each person's position on the journey to conquer their dreams.
While Thao is still struggling to become a top bartender, Jun Woo has already achieved what he wants - to become a famous actor. And conversely, while the Korean star appears full of anxiety, the Vietnamese girl brings a strangely positive atmosphere - something that seems to only come from someone enjoying her own journey.
Hoang Ha's performance helps the audience believe in the character's sincerity. She convincingly portrays the image of a young person who is always trying to conquer what she desires, while being somewhat reserved in the face of an uncertain future. Although there are not many climaxes, Hoang Ha still shows the ability to control emotions well, maintaining a connection with the audience and with Jun Woo's journey.
That sincerity opened up enough space for Jun Woo to impact Thao's life, motivating the Vietnamese girl to continue pursuing her dream; at the same time, it also made the Korean star learn to appreciate more what she had achieved.
But not impressive enough
In fact, up to now, Hoang Ha has somewhat proven herself to be a capable actress. Since her debut on the silver screen in 2022, she has been given many opportunities - from horror-themed projects like Soul Eater (2023), a work with strong comedy elements like The Last Wish (2025), to the hit TV series Us 8 years later (2023) - and each appearance creates a certain sympathy.
However, most of Hoang Ha's roles have not yet created a strong impression, enough to help her become a name mentioned a lot. In works that are heavily entertaining like Soul Eater good The Last Wish , she played the role well, with good dialogue and natural acting. However, Hoang Ha still could not really highlight the spirit of each genre - sometimes not graceful enough when playing a comedy role, other times lacking the haunting or thrilling quality of the horror genre - making the performance just stop at a safe level.

As for In Us 8 Years Later , Hoang Ha perfectly portrayed the character Duong, innocent, lovely, shy but strong at the right time. She and co-star Quoc Anh somewhat brought a feeling of excitement to the audience, helping the film resonate; Hoang Ha herself also received the attention of the audience. Unfortunately, the role ended relatively early, making the audience somewhat disappointed. However, that partly shows Hoang Ha's ability in the love/romance genre.
Back to Tay anh gi mot sao , the project initially received high expectations when it had the participation of an international crew that had already proven their skills. Hoang Ha was given a lot of space to express herself, as well as taking on a role that suited her strengths. However, the film regrettably ran out of steam at the box office; and the actress's performance - although creating some sympathy - was quite lackluster, not leaving much of an emotional impression.
As a rom-com, His hand holds a star is highly appreciated for its humorous elements, and this is even the strongest point of the film. However, it is Lee Kwang Soo - with his innate sense of humor - who leads the emotions throughout the story. Meanwhile, Hoang Ha appears quite pale in these scenes, lacking the chemistry with her male co-star; she herself has not shown the charm required for the genre.
Furthermore, there was no real chemistry between Hoang Ha and Lee Kwang Soo in the romantic scenes. The emotional connection between them was not natural enough, sometimes even forced, making the love story lack appeal. The scenes that were expected to bring a feeling of emotion or warmth were only at a pleasant level, unable to touch the viewers' emotions.

In addition, the role played by Hoang Ha is built on a familiar template, lacking the necessary creativity to create something new. Thao also does not have enough personality or highlights to keep the audience interested. Therefore, the character's journey, although meaningful, is still difficult to make the audience feel curious and want to accompany.
From the time she was one of the two "muses" in Me and Trinh (2022) Up to now, Hoang Ha has gone through quite a long journey, participating in many projects. And now, it is clear that she has become a relatively familiar name in Vietnamese cinema. However, to become an A-list actress with great appeal, Hoang Ha still needs a performance with real weight.
But with what happened in His hand holds a star , perhaps the actress will have to continue her journey to find that in another project in the future.
