Accordingly, in the directive document, Mr. Dau Thanh Tung assigned the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province to coordinate with relevant units, based on the content reported by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, to urgently check and verify the reflected content, and promptly report to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee before October 11.
Previously, as reported by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, a citizen had just submitted a petition to the Ministry of Education and Training, the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province and the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province, reflecting on a number of "ambiguous" issues in selecting students to compete in provincial-level excellent student competitions to select teams to compete in the National Excellent Student Competition in 2024, causing parents to be dissatisfied.
Specifically, at Lam Son High School for the Gifted, a student ranked 22nd in the exam, but for unknown reasons, this candidate with a score of 12.0 was suddenly increased by 1.5 points. This led to the candidate ranked 22nd to rank 20th in the whole school. At the same time, he was included in the list of 20 students specializing in Mathematics to enter round 2 (provincial-level excellent student competition to select the National excellent student competition team).
It is worth mentioning that Lam Son High School for the Gifted will organize a school-level team selection exam on September 7 and 8, 2024 (at this time, Lam Son High School for the Gifted will still implement the plan to select 15 students issued by the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province).
However, after organizing the contest, on September 13, Lam Son High School for the Gifted sent a document proposing to the Department of Education and Training to allow it to increase the quota from 15 students to 20. On September 18, the Thanh Hoa Department of Education and Training sent a document agreeing to the above proposal.

If according to the original plan of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province for Lam Son High School for the Gifted to select 15 students, then with the score after the review, this candidate would not have enough points to join the school's team. But thanks to the adjustment of the Department of Education and Training, this candidate naturally got the points to join the team. This is considered to be "intentional" to legitimize the preferential treatment of this student.
Responding to Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son, Principal of Lam Son High School for the Gifted, explained that the school has 2 Math classes (total 70 students). To give students the opportunity to practice, the school has sent a document to the Department of Education and Training requesting to increase the number to 20 students.
"The increase in students comes from the needs of parents and students. We also proposed this wish to the Department in meetings but it has not been considered. During the school's exam planning process, the Department notified and the plan was still only 15 students. However, after the exam was over and the results were out, we sent a document requesting an increase and the Department of Education and Training agreed to increase it to 20 students," Mr. Son informed.
Regarding the case of students increasing their scores, Mr. Son said that among the 34 candidates taking the national team selection exam, only candidate LVAD (grade 11, Math 2) applied for a review and increased his score by 1.5 points.
Immediately after the press reported the information, Mr. Tran Van Thuc, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province, assigned the Department Inspectorate to investigate and check. There are currently no results.
