Panoramic view of Vo Van Kiet Avenue after 4 months of construction to remove the motorbike lane divider

From June 2024 to present, the Urban Traffic Management and Operation Center (HCMC Department of Transport) has been repairing and renovating the median strip on Vo Van Kiet Avenue (East-West Avenue), from Km 4+900 - Km 12+900, on the right side of the route from Tan Kien intersection to Saigon River tunnel.

After about four months of construction, the median strip in the motorbike lane is now basically complete. The appearance of the road has also changed significantly, becoming more spacious and airy than before.

The road section was repaired and adjusted to 7m wide, consistent throughout the route, increasing traffic capacity. It can be seen that vehicles can move freely, ensuring distance and safety.

According to Giao Thong Newspaper's reporter, currently on the route there are only a few workers doing the final work such as erasing old road lines, painting new road lines, cleaning the route...

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu (residing in District 6), a resident who regularly travels on this route, said that removing the median strip is correct and reasonable. "The trees were also stunted in the past because there was not enough land. Remove all the median strips and plant trees in the motorbike lanes along the entire route to widen the road and make it easier for vehicles to travel."

Before the renovation, the two-wheel lane of Vo Van Kiet Street from Km 4+900 to Km 12+900 had two sections of road, 3-3.5m wide and 2-2.5m wide; separated by a hard median strip, with a continuous grass bed of an average width of 0.75m and a tree bed of an average width of 2m.

This unit also assessed that the traffic volume on the route is increasing day by day. The arrangement of lanes with tree-lined median strips causes traffic jams and collisions between vehicles to occur frequently.

To give the East-West Avenue a new look, 188 trees had to be cut down, 28 trees were uprooted and replanted. The total cost of the project was about 13 billion VND.

The renovation and upgrading of the route helps the East-West Avenue increase traffic capacity, meet people's travel needs as well as ensure connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and localities in the Southern key economic region.
