According to the announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , the state visit to Vietnam of Governor-General of Australia Sam Mostyn and his spouse was made at the invitation of President Luong Cuong and his wife.

In a letter sent to President Luong Cuong on the occasion of Vietnam's National Day recently, Governor-General Sam Mostyn emphasized that this is "a milestone marking 8 decades of nation building and socio -economic development, with the spirit of outstanding innovation and resilience of the Vietnamese people".

Australia and Vietnam are long-standing partners, with their relationship built on a foundation of strategic trust. Both sides are continuing to realise their vision and commitments within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, in which people-to-people exchange is a particularly important foundation.

The Governor General hopes to soon visit and witness the development of Vietnam.

The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries is developing strongly in most areas.

Two-way trade turnover has grown steadily, reaching more than 14 billion USD by 2024. Both sides have also actively opened their markets for each other's agricultural products. Vietnamese passion fruit has been exported to Australia for the first time and Australian plums have been present in the Vietnamese market.

Registered FDI capital from Australia has exceeded 3 billion USD. Australia increased ODA for Vietnam to 96.6 million AUD.

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong visited Vietnam two weeks ago to co-chair the 7th Vietnam-Australia Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
