According to the announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , at the invitation of President Luong Cuong, South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa will pay a State visit to Vietnam from October 23-24.
Vietnam and South Africa established diplomatic relations on December 22, 1993. Before that, Vietnam had relations with the African National Congress (ANC) and the South African Communist Party; always supported the South African people's struggle against the Apartheid regime and supported the democratic reform process.
South Africa is Vietnam's largest trading partner and export market in Africa. Total bilateral trade turnover in 2024 is expected to reach nearly 1.8 billion USD.
As of July 2025, South Africa has 20 valid investment projects in Vietnam, with an investment capital of 0.88 million USD, ranking 109th out of 151 countries and territories investing in Vietnam. Vietnam has 4 investment projects in South Africa with a total capital of 8.86 million USD, ranking 45th out of 84 countries and territories where Vietnam invests abroad.
The two sides regularly coordinate and support each other well at international organizations and multilateral forums.
At the invitation of President Luong Cuong, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres will pay an official visit to Vietnam and attend the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime from October 24-25.
Vietnam will host the signing ceremony and high-level conference on the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime in Hanoi on October 25-26.
This is an important international event, marking a milestone in the history of Vietnam's multilateral diplomacy and the 47th anniversary of the Vietnam-United Nations partnership.
In addition to the opening and closing sessions, the program is expected to include 1 plenary discussion session, 1 opening session, 4 high-level discussions and 4 roundtable discussions, 1 gala dinner, and a technology exhibition jointly organized by the Vietnamese Government and the United Nations Secretariat.
President Luong Cuong and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres are expected to deliver important speeches at the opening session.
