President Donald Trump will sign an executive order on September 25 declaring that the deal being negotiated by the White House to sell TikTok's US operations will meet requirements outlined in the 2024 law, a White House source said.
A senior White House official confirmed to NBC News on September 24 that once the deal is done, TikTok's US operations will be run by a new joint venture. ByteDance, TikTok's current parent company based in China, will hold less than 20% of the new company.
Earlier this week, the White House confirmed that President Trump would announce a deal to divest TikTok's US operations from its Chinese owner ByteDance in accordance with a law passed by Congress that would ban the short video app if ByteDance does not end its ownership.
Mr. Trump, who has more than 15 million followers on his personal TikTok account and has credited the app with helping him win reelection, has also delayed implementation of the law until mid-December, allowing time to complete the divestment and ensure the new ownership qualifies under the rules.
