Paying tribute to former experts of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam in Cambodia

On September 12 in Hanoi, General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security, chaired a meeting with the Liaison Committee of former Vietnamese Public Security Ministry experts in Cambodia - Group K79. He expressed his deep gratitude for the contributions and sacrifices of generations of officers and soldiers in the noble international cause, fostering the friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

According to information at the meeting, more than 46 years ago, with the help of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers, the Cambodian revolutionary forces overthrew the Khmer Rouge regime, liberating the country from the disaster of genocide. That victory was not only for the Cambodian people but also a milestone in the loyal and pure international solidarity, especially the friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia, in which there was an important contribution from the Vietnam People's Public Security force. Nearly 4,000 experts, officers and soldiers of the Vietnamese Public Security force went to Cambodia to help their friend grasp the situation, fight against hostile forces, build the Public Security force and contribute to the recovery and development of their friend's country. During 10 years of international duty, 12 officers and soldiers of the K79 Group heroically sacrificed their lives, many comrades left a part of their blood and bones on the friendly land.

After completing the international mission, thousands of cadres continued to promote the heroic tradition and valuable experience, many of whom grew up and took on important responsibilities in the cause of protecting security and order. These contributions were recognized with many noble awards: The Cambodian State awarded the K79 Group more than 1,700 Fatherland Protection Medals and 570 Friendship Medals; the Group was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and State of Vietnam. The late Deputy Minister Tran Vien Chi was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces, the Second and Third Class Feat of Arms Medal; more than 2,500 cadres and soldiers were awarded and posthumously awarded the "For International Duty" Badge...

Minister Luong Tam Quang respectfully thanked and sent his best regards to all former experts of the Ministry of Public Security in Cambodia. He expressed his joy that many former experts, despite their old age, still maintained their enthusiasm, actively participated in mass and social activities, and contributed to the cause of ensuring security and order and socio-economic development in the locality. The Liaison Committee of the K79 Youth Union has maintained many meaningful activities, connecting members, participating in summarizing and compiling history, educating traditions, and even had members directly participating in the former People's Public Security force marching on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day September 2.

"Those contributions have fostered courage and pride, brightened the glorious tradition of the People's Public Security force, and are a shining example for the younger generation to follow," said Minister Luong Tam Quang. He affirmed that the Central Public Security Party Committee, the Ministry of Public Security and the entire force always remember the great contributions and sacrifices of generations of former experts - invaluable spiritual assets, living proof of the Vietnam - Cambodia friendship.

Minister Luong Tam Quang hopes that the former experts will continue to promote the spirit of "old age, higher ambition", preserve political qualities and revolutionary ethics, contribute ideas to build an increasingly disciplined, elite and modern People's Public Security force; at the same time, actively participate in the movement of all people to protect national security, contribute to consolidating the "people's security posture" and "people's hearts posture" right from the grassroots, and foster the friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

The Minister also directed functional units to soon complete the regime and policies for former experts... He emphasized that this is both the responsibility and the deep affection of the People's Public Security force towards former experts who have devoted and sacrificed for the noble international ideal and the traditional friendship between the two nations.
