Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung - Phu Thai village, Ham Tri commune, Ham Thuan Bac district shared:

In recent years, implementing the policy of converting ineffective rice-growing land to crop rotation, many farmers in Ham Tri commune have boldly chosen the disease-resistant Sen Hong sticky corn plant, put it into production with economic efficiency, bringing a fairly stable source of income. Sticky corn has a short growing period, about 70 days to harvest; can be planted 4 times a year, easy to grow, requires little care; in the winter-spring crop, corn grows well, with a yield of 1.5 - 2 tons/sao; the output of fresh corn products is purchased by traders at a stable price of about 6 million VND/ton, farmers earn from 9 - 12 million VND/sao, minus costs of about 4 million VND, earning a profit of 5 - 8 million VND/sao/crop. From the above favorable factors, for many years, farmers in Ham Tri commune, Ham Thuan Bac district have confidently chosen this crop for intensive cultivation.

The average yield of fresh corn is 15 tons/ha with a stable price of 6 million VND/ton. After deducting expenses, farmers earn a profit of about 50 million VND/ha/crop, 2-3 times higher than growing rice. Each year, farmers produce at least 3 crops, earning a profit of about 150 million VND/ha. Most of the land area of farmers growing waxy corn is mainly located along both sides of rivers, with water flowing around, helping farmers to be proactive in irrigation water sources, convenient in intensive farming and fertilizing at the right time. At the same time, these households specializing in growing waxy corn all have many years of experience, high corn yield, and quite stable income. In addition, after harvesting the corn, farmers also use the corn stalks to feed cows or can be used as fertilizer, contributing to increasing income.
