The rate of malnutrition in African children is still high.

Although there have been significant improvements in stunting rates over the past decades, one in three children in West and Central Africa remains stunted.

Of these, nearly 1 million children in Mali are at risk of acute malnutrition by the end of 2023. About 32% of children in Africa are stunted and nearly 80% do not have an adequate diet.

To address this situation, UNICEF has called on public and private organizations to join the “First Foods” initiative to create sustainable, systemic, climate-resilient change, transforming food systems to sustainably combat child malnutrition in West and Central Africa.
