U23 Vietnam: Who will help coach Kim Sang Sik solve this difficult problem?

Coach Kim Sang Sik needs to solve the problem of scoring goals for U23 Vietnam if he wants to succeed at SEA Games 33 or the U23 Asian Cup taking place next year.

Alarming situation

Scoring efficiency is the most prominent problem of U23 Vietnam throughout recent tournaments, from U23 Southeast Asia to U23 Asia qualifiers and is giving Mr. Kim Sang Sik a real headache.

In the final result, U23 Vietnam still won or became the champion, but it was extremely difficult to penetrate the net of opponents (even much weaker ones), or missed a series of delicious opportunities.

Along with that, the ability to create and create in midfield is still limited. When the opponent actively retreats to defend, U23 Vietnam often has trouble finding a way into the goal.

The midfielders, although controlling the ball well, lacked "unusual" passes on a regular basis, making the dominating and controlling play that U23 Vietnam created... quite meaningless.

If this situation is not radically improved, bigger goals such as winning the SEA Games gold medal or going deep in the U23 Asian Cup will become extremely difficult.

Who will help coach Kim Sang Sik solve this difficult problem?

Looking at what we have, from the current strength of U23 Vietnam to the overall picture of V-League, the problem of scoring efficiency and creativity is not easy to solve.

It is not easy for domestic strikers to win a starting position, so it goes without saying that it is difficult for young U23 strikers in the V-League.

Coach Kim Sang Sik needs to solve the problem of the attack line if he wants to succeed in the SEA Games or the U23 Asian Cup finals next year.

In that context, fans are placing great faith in Tran Thanh Trung - a Vietnamese-American player currently playing for Ninh Binh as a savior for the midfield that is lacking ideas and creativity in U23 Vietnam.

This hope is well-founded, however Thanh Trung still needs time to understand and integrate into Vietnamese football, which means this midfielder is only playing the role of a potential "savior" instead of an immediate one.

From now until the deadline to send the preliminary list (about 50 players) to the SEA Games 33 Organizing Committee, Coach Kim Sang Sik will have more time to evaluate Thanh Trung as well as other young talents. It is expected that this Vietnamese-American player will quickly show his class, becoming the solution to the problem that Mr. Kim Sang Sik faces.

Otherwise, perhaps Mr. Kim Sang Sik will have to... save himself by making more systematic changes: improving attacking tactics to create more clear-cut opportunities, training specialized finishing skills for players, and maybe boldly experimenting with new formations and playing styles.

U23 Vietnam must change, otherwise it may be difficult to achieve the upcoming goals at the SEA Games or the U23 Asian Cup.
