U23 Vietnam finalizes list to attend 2024 AFC U23 Championship Finals

Coach Hoang Anh Tuan decided to eliminate Tran Trung Kien, Nguyen Thanh Khai, Nguyen Duc Anh and Ha Van Phuong to finalize the list of U23 Vietnam players to participate in the 2024 U23 Asian Cup.

On the afternoon of April 15 (local time), Coach Hoang Anh Tuan officially finalized the list of 23 U23 Vietnam players participating in the 2024 AFC U23 Championship Finals held in Qatar.

According to this list, the 4 eliminated players include goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien, defender Nguyen Thanh Khai, Nguyen Duc Anh and midfielder Ha Van Phuong.

Coach Hoang Anh Tuan said the coaching staff had a thorough discussion based on assessments after the recent training and friendly matches before making the final list.

The coaching staff selects players based on three basic criteria: expertise, form and ability to meet the team's technical and tactical requirements.

Coach Hoang Anh Tuan also said that up to this point, U23 Vietnam has completed preparations and is ready to enter the journey at the 2024 U23 Asian Finals.

"In my assessment through the training session, the performance of the players, especially the players on the list to participate in the 2024 AFC U23 Championship Finals, is quite good. We hope to receive support from the media and fans to achieve the best results at the AFC U23 Championship Finals this time," VFF quoted Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan.

At the 2024 AFC U23 Championship Finals, U23 Vietnam is in Group D with Uzbekistan, Kuwait and Malaysia.

According to the schedule, the Vietnam U23 team will play the opening match against the Kuwait U23 team at 10:30 p.m. on April 17 at Al Jaloub Stadium.

However, because AFC does not allow teams to practice on the field to maintain the grass, the U23 Vietnam players will only have a tour before entering the match.

In the second match, Coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team will face the same region team, U23 Malaysia (8:00 p.m. on July 20).

In the final match of the group stage, U23 Vietnam will face the highest rated opponent in Group D, U23 Uzbekistan (at 10:30 p.m. on April 23).

The 2024 AFC U23 Championship Finals will take place from April 15 to May 3, 2024 in Qatar, promising to be very tense as this is also the tournament to determine Asian representatives to attend the 2024 Paris Olympics. The group stage matches will take place from April 15 to April 23.

The three teams that win first, second and third place at the AFC U23 Championship Finals will qualify directly to France to attend the Olympics.

The fourth-placed team will enter a play-off against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) representative for a place at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The task of winning a ticket to France is certainly not easy for Coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team, as all opponents are highly rated.

Therefore, the most practical goal that U23 Vietnam has is to first pass the group stage, then consider higher positions in this tournament.
