UNESCO highly appreciates Cat Ba Biosphere Reserve

On the afternoon of August 30, at the Government headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan received Ms. Katherine Muller Marin, Chief Representative of the UNESCO Office in Hanoi. Cat Ba Biosphere Reserve has been chosen by UNESCO as the first typical biosphere reserve, a laboratory model serving sustainable development education .

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan expressed his joy and gratitude for the close and effective cooperation between UNESCO and the Vietnamese Government over the past time.

The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO for coordinating with the Vietnam National Committee for Man and the Biosphere (MAB) and localities nationwide to actively deploy and implement activities to maintain the network of biosphere reserves recognized by UNESCO. Currently, biosphere reserves have demonstrated their value beyond the usual conservation meaning, demonstrating the close combination between biodiversity conservation, cultural and educational values ​​conservation and socio-economic development, improving the lives of local communities and serving the country's sustainable development goals, typically Kien Giang , Cat Ba, Cu Lao Cham, Can Gio...

Ms. Katherine Muller Marin thanked Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan for taking the time to receive her and said that UNESCO highly appreciated the Cat Ba Biosphere Reserve, which was chosen by UNESCO as the first typical biosphere reserve, a laboratory model serving sustainable development education to be replicated for other countries to learn and apply.

On this occasion, Ms. Katherine Muller Marin also reported to the Deputy Prime Minister about supporting Vietnam to complete the dossier of Cat Tien National Park to submit to UNESCO for recognition as a world natural heritage in the coming time./.
