Responding to storm No. 1, aviation closes 3 airports

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has just continued to send a telegram to relevant units to continue proactively preventing, combating, and responding to storm No. 1 (international name Talim) to ensure the safety of flights, people, and property at airports, minimizing negative impacts on flight operations.

Accordingly, the leaders of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requested the Aviation Meteorological Center to continuously monitor the storm's developments and update the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue and aviation agencies and units.

Airlines are required to proactively adjust flight schedules where possible, move flights forward or postpone them after the time when bad weather is warned; and instruct pilots to comply with safety principles before and after the storm.

For flights to and from Noi Bai International Airport, Van Don, Cat Bi, it is necessary to calculate the amount of fuel and choose alternate airports from Vinh, Da Nang ... onwards, depending on the type of aircraft.

The Department of Air Transport, airlines and relevant units need to arrange 24/7 duty to immediately resolve airlines' requests to adjust flight schedules due to the storm's impact.

“Van Don and Cat Bi international airports need to move aircraft planned to land at Van Don and Cat Bi ports (except in cases of force majeure) to other airports.

Cat Bi Airport coordinates with Green Planet Aviation Joint Stock Company to tie down aircrafts to park at the port, ensuring safety in storm prevention work," the leader of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requested.

The dispatch stated that the Northern Airports Authority has implemented procedures to stop receiving aircraft arriving/departing from Noi Bai Airport (from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on July 18), Van Don Airport (from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on July 18), and Cat Bi Airport (from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on July 18). According to the assessment of the Aviation Meteorological Center, these are the time frames with dangerous weather conditions at the airports.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam also requested the Northern Airports Authority to regularly update information on storm No. 1 to proactively adjust the opening/closing times at airports in the storm-affected areas according to regulations.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting and Weather Warning Center, at 1:00 p.m. on July 17, the storm center was about 480 km east-southeast of Mong Cai ( Quang Ninh ), level 12 (118-133 km/h), gusting to level 15, moving west-northwest (15-20 km/h).

The storm center is forecast to enter FIR HN ( Hanoi Flight Information Region) from 12:00 to 14:00 on July 18, level 8-10, gusts of level 10-12. The storm center is forecast to make landfall from 13:00 to 14:00 on July 18, level 8, gusts of level 10. It is forecasted that after 19:00 on July 18, storm No. 1 will weaken into a tropical depression and continue to weaken into a low pressure area.
