The book “Contemporary Vietnamese Culture - Opportunities and Challenges” by Professor, Dr. Dinh Xuan Dung, recently released to readers by the Truth National Political Publishing House, highlights the opportunities, prospects and directions for culture to truly become the spiritual foundation of society, the driving force for the country's development in the new era.
In the context of the country's strong development, achievements in the cultural field have not really developed commensurate with its potential, and have even revealed certain limitations, slower than outstanding achievements in politics, economics , society, security and defense, and are somewhat not effective enough in "building and developing Vietnamese culture and people to meet the requirements of sustainable national development" as the Party and State's policy.
The book “Contemporary Vietnamese Culture - Opportunities and Challenges” has met the needs of readers and interested people to learn and research. It is a collection of surveys, research, and experience drawn from practice and theory over many years by an expert and scientist who has worked and researched culture, ideology, and theory for many years.
The book covers five main contents. The first part, “Some theoretical issues on the development of contemporary Vietnamese culture,” is an article on the theory of Vietnamese cultural development from the process of movement, especially in the period of innovation and integration, expressing the general category of contemporary culture of the nation and the dimensions of the country’s culture today, bearing the mark of progress, imbued with identity, forming an endogenous dynamic system, with resistance, contributing to the harmonious regulation of development.
There, contemporary Vietnamese culture inherits the traditional and national cultural identity, while also innovating according to the progressive trends of the times. This is also the consistent viewpoint of our Party, from the "Outline on Vietnamese Culture" born during the years of secret activities to gain national independence to the Party's theoretical breakthroughs in cultural development over 40 years of renovation.
The highlight is the great lesson about the steadfastness and creativity in Ho Chi Minh's thought on culture, inherited, summarized and developed in theory, expressed in the thinking and vision of generations of Party and State leaders, at the same time clarifying the characteristics of an advanced culture, imbued with national identity and the goal of developing Vietnamese culture and people in the new stage of the process of moving towards socialism.
The second part “On cultural values” includes research articles, positioning, and analysis in both breadth and depth of the contemporary Vietnamese cultural value system, clarifying the connotation of related concepts. In which, the national value system, cultural value system, family value system and Vietnamese human standards in the new period are highlighted with urgency and requirements in construction, formation and development.
Through practical surveys and research with comparisons over time, Professor, Doctor Dinh Xuan Dung has made scientific comments on the changes and the ability to shape cultural values and contemporary Vietnamese people in the past 20 years. There are new and progressive things emerging, becoming mainstream in life, but not separate from the national cultural heritage and the existence of negative and deviant signs.
Clearly identifying this helps us to cultivate and build the typical values of contemporary Vietnamese people, with enough courage to accept new values while still preserving identity, and at the same time to set clear criteria for cultural development associated with socio-economic development in the period of industrialization, modernization and international integration.
From the theoretical foundation of the contemporary Vietnamese cultural value system, the third part of the book "Initial assessment of Vietnamese cultural practices from the 13th National Party Congress" has presented thoughts, feelings and suggestions, and evaluated modern Vietnamese cultural practices from many perspectives. From the understanding of Ho Chi Minh's thoughts on culture, politics, society, people and press traditions in the 4.0 industrial era, the author has made in-depth analyses of the guidelines, the process of thoroughly grasping and implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, summarizing, pointing out the highlights, strong changes and challenges ahead in building and developing culture when entering the new era.
The work of taking care of cultural development, creating a positive and healthy lifestyle, resolutely pushing back negativity and corruption, and gradually moving towards a learning society... will be the guiding factors in creating prosperity and happiness for the people and the cause of building and protecting the country.
In the content section "Promoting the cultural potential of regions" and "Promoting the strength of culture in building armed forces in the new period", Professor, Dr. Dinh Xuan Dung mentioned and clarified the role and importance in promoting the potentials that need to be further opened and developed in local culture as well as the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers - a dialectical blend of Vietnamese culture with important contributions to the cause of innovation, construction and protection of the Fatherland.
These two parts of content raise the practice of cultural development in localities, showing the role of the people as the subject and the role of culture as a resource and driving force for socio-economic development, building a strong and disciplined army, ensuring the stability and sustainable development of the country. Preserving and promoting national values, while constantly accepting the quintessence of humanity in building contemporary Vietnamese culture is an affirmation of the political and cultural mettle of a nation in today's volatile world, that is also the meaning that the author of the book "Vietnamese Culture - Opportunities and Challenges" wishes to convey to readers.
