Struggling with the big waves, bringing 34 people on a sunken ship in Thien Cam sea to shore safely

A tourist boat carrying 30 tourists and 4 crew members was sunk by waves while squid fishing in Thien Cam sea (Thien Cam commune, Ha Tinh) on the evening of July 19.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Khoi - Head of Thien Cam Border Guard Station ( Ha Tinh Border Guard) informed that at about 7:20 p.m. on July 19, the weather in the sea area of ​​Thien Cam commune suddenly had thunderstorms and heavy rain, causing many boats to not be able to return to shelter in time.

At that time, the tourist boat Nguyen Ngoc owned by Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoang was on its way to shore when it was unfortunately sunk by waves in the area of ​​Boc Island, about 0.5 nautical miles from Thien Cam coast. At the time of the accident, there were 4 crew members and 30 tourists on board who were participating in a squid fishing tour. When the boat sank, all passengers and crew members wore life jackets and jumped into the sea to await rescue.

Immediately after receiving the news, Thien Cam Border Guard Station quickly deployed forces, coordinated with Thien Cam Commune authorities to mobilize large tonnage vessels operating near the sunken ship to approach the scene and rescue. However, the rescue work encountered many difficulties due to heavy rain, big waves and taking place at night.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Khoi said: "When we arrived at the scene, all the passengers had jumped into the sea. After the rescue, everyone had to take shelter on Boc Island. At around 0:30 on July 20, when the storm had dissipated, the tourists were brought ashore to ensure safety."

After about 5 hours of continuous effort, all 4 crew members and 30 tourists were brought safely to shore by rescue forces.

This morning (July 20), authorities and the ship owner are hiring a team of professional divers to approach and soon have a plan to salvage and bring the vehicle ashore.

Also during the same period, a fishing boat owned by fisherman Tran Dai Viet (Cam Trung commune) was also sunk by waves while on its way into the channel to take shelter from the storm. The 3 crew members on board were quickly found by authorities and brought safely to shore.
