According to Associate Professor Dr. Le Trung Chon, Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development Studies, Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Resources and Environment, before 2010, subsidence in areas such as Go Vap, Tan Binh, District 12, and Cu Chi occurred due to groundwater exploitation.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has limited mining licenses and controlled capacity, so the subsidence rate has decreased significantly and mining areas have gradually become more stable.

According to the map of restricted groundwater exploitation zones, District 12, Go Vap District and Hoc Mon District… have 35 areas in restricted groundwater exploitation. These are localities under the management of Trung An Water Supply Joint Stock Company, which supplies water through meters.

According to a representative of Trung An Water Supply Joint Stock Company, the city's issuance of regulations on lists, zoning maps, and restrictions on groundwater exploitation is the basis for water management units to review areas with restricted groundwater exploitation.

On this basis, the water supply company will coordinate with local authorities to encourage people to use tap water through meters.

Especially, for polluted areas (cemeteries, landfills), we resolutely require customers to fill their wells if they use both systems (tap water and well water) in parallel to ensure people's health.

To reduce the situation of people installing water meters but not using them and instead using well water, this unit will soon organize propaganda about the importance of clean water and limit the exploitation of underground water.

Thereby helping people understand the harmful effects of excessive groundwater exploitation that has been causing many serious consequences such as water quality decline, water source pollution, land subsidence, etc.
