Why is the film set of 'Red Rain' not used for tourism purposes?

Báo Đại Đoàn KếtBáo Đại Đoàn Kết05/03/2025

The movie "Red Rain" is a large-scale project of the People's Army Cinema, recreating the heroic fight of the Vietnamese army and people in 81 days and nights to protect Quang Tri Citadel. However, after completing the pre-production scenes, the "Red Rain" studio in Quang Tri was not accepted to develop into a tourist destination. So what is the reason?

Inappropriate location and structure

During the filming of the movie “Red Rain”, there was an opinion that Quang Tri province should turn this film set into a place to attract tourists. This opinion also has its reasons, to avoid waste and at the same time create more attractive destinations for tourists when visiting this once fiery land.

However, on February 25, the People's Committee of Quang Tri town sent a document to the People's Committee of Quang Tri province about the proposal to receive the film set for the movie "Red Rain" made by the People's Army Cinema. According to the People's Committee of Quang Tri town, the land where the film set was built is agricultural land of households in the localities of Tich Tuong village, Hai Le commune and Ward 1, An Don ward. This means that maintaining the film set will directly affect the agricultural production activities of local people. The location of the film set for the movie "Red Rain" is next to the bank of Thach Han river. This is a low-lying area, often affected by floods.

Meanwhile, the set of “Red Rain” was built with an unsafe structure. After the filming was completed, the set was no longer intact and could not be renovated or preserved to develop into a tourist attraction. This made receiving and maintaining the set difficult and impossible.
For the above reasons, the People's Committee of Quang Tri town did not propose a plan to receive the film set of "Red Rain".

Will return the scene before April 30th

Explaining the reason why the film crew did not dismantle the set immediately after finishing filming, Lieutenant Colonel Kieu Thanh Thuy - Deputy Director of the People's Army Cinema, Production Director of the film "Red Rain" said that the film "Red Rain" is currently in the post-production stage. In terms of filmmaking principles, after finishing filming, the set is usually kept for a certain period of time to serve additional scenes (if any).

In addition, according to Ms. Thuy, on January 15, the leaders of Quang Tri province visited and encouraged the film crew before the filming ended. The provincial representative also suggested that the People's Army Cinema should make a proposal so that the province has a basis to request the relevant agencies to advise and consult on keeping the film set. "Therefore, we are waiting for the province's decision on reusing or preserving the film set" - Ms. Thuy shared, at the same time, she said that after learning that the People's Committee of Quang Tri town did not propose a plan to receive the "Red Rain" film set, the People's Army Cinema sent an official dispatch to the People's Committee of Quang Tri province to report on the filming process and return the set before April 30.

"We will coordinate with local authorities and relevant parties to develop a reasonable demolition roadmap, ensuring completion before April 30 as planned," the Deputy Director of the People's Army Cinema affirmed.

The dismantling of the film studio will take place in stages, prioritizing the clearance of areas that directly affect production and people's lives. The People's Army Cinema will closely coordinate with local authorities and relevant parties to ensure the dismantling takes place safely, without affecting the environment and surrounding areas.

The movie “Red Rain” is a large-scale project of the People’s Army Cinema in recent years. The film is directed by Meritorious Artist Dang Thai Huyen, the script is written by writer Chu Lai.

The film crew surveyed the background in more than 10 provinces and cities to choose suitable filming locations to accurately recreate the historical context. The main setting of the film was built on a scale of nearly 50 hectares next to the Thach Han River, in the area of Quang Tri town.

“Red Rain” is about 110 - 120 minutes long and is expected to be completed in July 2025.
