On December 5, the Russian Defense Ministry released a video recording close-up of the country's main battle tank opening fire at an important hotspot on the northern front line in the conflict with Ukraine.

"The T-80 BVM tanks are tasked with targeting enemy positions and disrupting their logistics. The BVM is one of the recent modifications of the 'workhorse' tank used by the Russian army," the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Also according to the Russian Defense Ministry, the T-80 BVM battalion prevented the rotation of Ukrainian forces near the village of Torskoye, where the Russian army had secured a favorable position.

The area lies on the border between the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Lugansk People's Republic (LPR), about 10km east of Krasny Liman, a major Ukrainian stronghold in the Donbass region.

The footage, which has not been independently verified, appears to have been filmed from the front lines rather than during actual battle, according to RT .

The second year of the Russia-Ukraine conflict has been challenging for both sides, with the widespread deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), making surprise attacks by armored vehicles highly risky.

The tanks in the video above are heavily camouflaged, reflecting the importance of camouflaging high-value targets to avoid enemy reconnaissance.

The Krasny Liman front has seen some of the fiercest fighting in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. In a report, the Russian military said its forces repelled 13 Ukrainian attacks on the front last week.
