Implementing Project 7, National Target Program 1719, in addition to communication and health education , Lao Cai province has widely and effectively deployed 51 models of "Improving practices of community-based child care and feeding".

The health sector focuses mainly on nutritional care for the first 1,000 days of a child's life. The implementation has shown positive results. Specifically, the rate of underweight malnutrition will decrease from 15.1% in 2022 to 12.9% in 2024.

Health care for people in remote, isolated and particularly disadvantaged areas is increasingly receiving attention and improving in quality.

Implementing Project 7, in the past time, the Lao Cai Provincial Health Department has fully performed the functions of advising, organizing, managing and directing. Therefore, the work of taking care of people's health, improving the physical condition and stature of ethnic minorities, and preventing child malnutrition has achieved many encouraging results.

According to the report of the Central Steering Committee for National Target Programs for the period 2021 - 2025, after 5 years of implementing Project 7, the whole country has organized 1,517 training courses to enhance knowledge and capacity in health care and nutrition for mothers and children to reduce maternal and child mortality, improve the stature and physical strength of ethnic minorities...

To date, 100% of malnourished children have been supported to improve their nutrition through nutrition counseling and communication activities; over 80% of pregnant women in communes in region 3 have been supplemented with multi-micronutrients from the time they discover they are pregnant until they give birth, including free sources from the Program and self-funded sources. In particular, the rate of women giving birth in health facilities or with the assistance of midwives has reached 92.5%.

In Quang Tri province, according to information from the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions, from 2022 to February 2025, the central and provincial budget capital allocated to implement the 3 main contents of Project 7, National Target Program 1719 is 9,635 million VND.

From this funding source, Quang Tri province has organized activities to build and develop grassroots healthcare, improve the quality of the population in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, and provide health care and nutrition for mothers and children; and improve the stature and physical strength of ethnic minority people.

According to the assessment of Quang Tri province, through the implementation of Project 7, National Target Program 1719, in general, the planning targets of the period were almost achieved. The rate of pregnant women receiving regular check-ups (at least 4 times during pregnancy) increased. The rate of women giving birth at medical facilities or with the support of medical staff increased. The rate of children under 5 years old with malnutrition and underweight decreased.

Along with that, communication, consulting and mobilization activities for ethnic minority and mountainous people have strongly impacted reproductive health care and nutrition care through direct intervention from when the mother is pregnant and raising her child in the first 1,000 days of life.

According to Mr. Luc Hau Giang, Deputy Director of Lao Cai Provincial Department of Health, Project 7, National Target Program 1719 has contributed to the effective implementation of the people's health care program, improving the health and stature of ethnic minorities; preventing child malnutrition. The impact of Project 7 has created conditions for ethnic minorities to access modern health services, have full knowledge about population, health care... thereby, awareness of the need for health care for themselves as well as their families and future generations has been focused on by the people.

The project has also deployed 3,885,902 maternal and child health care service packages according to the professional guidance provided by the Ministry of Health; deployed 137,596 models of propaganda and communication to change behavior on maternal and child health care and nutrition; and developed 55,203 communication publications.

According to the assessment of the Central Steering Committee for National Target Programs for the period 2021 - 2025, the contents and activities of Project 7 have contributed to reducing maternal and child mortality, preventing and controlling Thalassemia, improving health, enhancing stature, physical strength, and longevity of ethnic minorities and supporting the strengthening of grassroots health care work so that ethnic minorities can access modern health care services.

Along with that, facilities and equipment are gradually invested in district health centers and commune health stations; medical human resources serving people's health care are increasingly concerned. People in ethnic minority and mountainous areas have access to medical services and primary health care right at their localities.
