Yokohama FC announced contract extension with Cong Phuong

On the morning of January 7, Yokohama FC announced contract extensions for two players for the 2024 season, including Nguyen Cong Phuong. The Nghe An player continues to be associated with the Japanese team despite not contributing anything last season.

Nguyen Cong Phuong moved to Yokohama FC after his contract with HAGL expired. He brought his whole family to live in Japan.

In the 2023 season, Cong Phuong was not injured but was rarely used by coach Yomoda Shuhei. The striker born in 1995 was only registered for 2 matches against Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Nagoya Grampus in the J.League Cup. He was brought on the field in the last minute of the match against Nagoya Grampus on April 5.

Not being able to play has cost Cong Phuong the chance to wear the Vietnamese national team jersey. In the training session last September, Cong Phuong scored against the Syrian team. However, coach Philippe Troussier hopes that the striker born in 1995 will find more opportunities to play to achieve the best physical condition and playing feeling.

After that, he still decided to stay in Japan and accept not playing on the field. Coach Troussier did not include Cong Phuong's name in the next training sessions, including the 2023 Asian Cup.

Cong Phuong and his teammates are looking forward to the new season in J.League 2. The team is determined to return to the highest level of Japan. This could be an opportunity for Cong Phuong to prove his ability to head coach Yomoda Shuhei.

In Yokohama FC's registration list, Cong Phuong wears the number 28 shirt. He is one of the team's 7 strikers. Therefore, the competition in the attack line is very high, especially with the appearance of two foreign players Marcelo Ryan and Caprini.
