Changing people's perceptions
On the morning of July 13, the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Cultural House was packed with people waiting in line for their turn to be examined. After Hanoi , this is the next time Manulife Vietnam Insurance cooperates with the Vietnam Young Physicians Association to organize free screening for HP bacteria - one of the leading risks causing stomach cancer, the third most common cancer in Vietnam today; at the same time, sponsoring people to get medical examinations in the fields of gastroenterology, ENT, X-ray, ultrasound, electrocardiogram, blood sugar testing, etc. This activity is part of the non-profit program "Clean - Smart - Green Living" initiated by Manulife since June 2024 to raise public awareness of gastrointestinal diseases, with professional sponsorship from the Vietnam Young Physicians Association.
Knowing about this program in the newspaper, Ms. Pham Thi Bich Ha, a resident of Ben Tre province, and her husband registered to participate and arrived very early. She said that her busy business rarely allowed her to eat on time. “Many times when there were many customers, I was so busy selling that I forgot to eat. There were days when I didn’t eat anything all day, only when my stomach growled. When I came here, the doctor guided me and gave me a lot of new information, so I probably have to change a lot of habits in the future,” Ms. Ha said.
Notably, many young people also signed up to participate in HP bacteria screening. Mr. Tran Thai An (3rd year student, living in District 6) admitted: “Thinking that I am still young, I do not pay too much attention to health issues, especially eating and living habits. Before, eating spicy food and drinking alcohol was very normal, even frequent... However, after this examination, I have gained a lot of knowledge. Maybe I will give up many bad habits and move towards a more positive lifestyle.”
Need to replicate
Explaining the interest of many people in Ho Chi Minh City in this event, Master Truong Van Dat - Member of the Standing Committee, Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Young Physicians Association said: "Rampant dirty food, irregular eating habits, unhealthy lifestyles are the leading risks affecting the health of the digestive system, which in the long run can create unpredictable consequences. This program has touched the reality and concerns of people about digestive health as well as helped raise public awareness about the risks of serious diseases from seemingly harmless daily habits. I think it is necessary to further expand such valuable and practical programs" Ms. Tina Nguyen, General Director of Manulife Vietnam, the initiator of this meaningful community program, expressed her desire to contribute to building a healthy lifestyle, preventing stomach cancer and problems related to digestive health for people. “The program not only raises awareness of digestive health but also demonstrates Manulife’s commitment to protecting and improving the quality of life of Vietnamese people,” Ms. Tina emphasized.
Previously, on July 6, Manuife Vietnam Insurance organized a program to screen for HP bacteria and provide free medical examinations in Hanoi, attracting more than 1,000 people to register to participate. The activity is part of the community program "Clean - Smart - Green Living" designed by Manulife for 2,000 people in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to raise public awareness about building a healthy lifestyle according to the three criteria of Clean, Smart, and Green to protect digestive health as well as prevent stomach cancer.
