170 teachers trained in autistic education from Singapore International Foundation

Today (November 28), the closing ceremony of the 'Teaching and Learning for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders' Project organized by the Singapore International Foundation (SIF) with Vietnamese partners took place at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education.

The program enables teachers to improve their capacity to teach children with autism spectrum disorders.

Speaking at the closing event, Mr. Jaryll Chan, Executive Director of Programmes at the Singapore International Foundation, shared that the project to strengthen the education capacity of children with autism is a testament to what can be achieved when communities cross national boundaries to work together for a common goal.

The project started in November 2019 and has now been completed after 5 years, implemented by the Singapore International Foundation together with Ho Chi Minh City University of Education and Rainbow Singapore Center.

During the project implementation period, a total of 170 teachers from 15 schools and a hospital were trained to improve their educational capacity to build an inclusive learning environment for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Ho Chi Minh City.

The training skills are aimed at equipping teachers with deeper knowledge about autism and effective ways to work with children with ASD.

The program also focuses on developing a support system for educators to address the specific needs of students.

At the same time, the project also builds a program framework to coordinate with parents and caregivers to comprehensively support autistic children.

Several teachers also attended the workshop and had a study tour to Singapore. After that, 10 teachers were selected to become core lecturers, with the responsibility of sharing their experience and expertise with their colleagues, ensuring the project is maintained and continues to bring value to the education community in Ho Chi Minh City.

Of the participating schools, 80% made changes to better meet the needs of children with ASD, including adopting proven practices to improve classroom communication and creating learning environments with student-friendly design.
