Mr. Juan Castillo, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Uruguay, Minister of Labor and Social Security of Uruguay, gave an interview to VNA correspondent in South America.

Mr. Juan Castillo sent his warm congratulations to the Party, State and all people of Vietnam on the occasion of the important event marking 8 decades since President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

According to Mr. Juan Castillo, September 2, 1945 is not only a great historical milestone of the Vietnamese people, but also has great symbolic significance for the national liberation movement and social progress around the world . He emphasized that the great achievements that the Vietnamese people have achieved over the past 80 years are the result of their resilient fighting spirit, self-reliance and aspiration to build a fair, democratic and civilized society.

Mr. Juan Castillo affirmed that Uruguay always closely follows the revolutionary journey of the Vietnamese people - a heroic nation that has overcome countless challenges to regain independence, restore sovereignty and rebuild the country after the war. In the context of economic difficulties, Vietnam remains steadfast on the socialist path, gradually developing the economy, ensuring social security and improving people's lives.

The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Uruguay also expressed his admiration for Vietnam's increasingly strong role in the international arena, considering this a clear demonstration of the effectiveness and sustainability of the development model that Vietnam is pursuing. He highly appreciated the increasingly deep cooperation between the two countries, including the close relationship between the Communist Party of Uruguay and the Vietnamese Embassy in Argentina, concurrently serving Uruguay and Paraguay - an important bridge in people-to-people diplomacy and cultural exchange activities.

The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Uruguay emphasized: “Vietnam is a shining example of sustainable development and innovation. We are proud to consider Vietnam a loyal and inspiring friend in the journey to build a humane, fair and peaceful world.”

During the meeting, Minister Juan Castillo also announced the construction of a statue of President Ho Chi Minh in Montevideo, an act symbolizing the admiration and gratitude of the Uruguayan people for the great leader of the Vietnamese nation.

He emphasized that President Ho Chi Minh once set foot in Uruguay during his journey to find a way to save the country and stopped at the port of Montevideo. His footprints are a part of history that cannot be forgotten.

The project to build the monument not only has a commemorative meaning but also a message to future generations, to affirm the ideological stature, revolutionary spirit and courage of President Ho Chi Minh, who devoted his whole life to the cause of national liberation and noble international ideals.

He emphasized: “The Vietnamese cultural space and the statue of President Ho Chi Minh are a humble but respectful tribute to a man who deserves to be honored by the whole world. It is also an affirmation that Vietnam's struggle was not in vain, that the path opened by President Ho Chi Minh is still being continued.”

General Secretary Juan Castillo said that the Ho Chi Minh Monument in Montevideo will be a valuable foundation for the next steps in the friendly relations between the two countries. He also hopes to visit Vietnam in the future to witness with his own eyes the development achievements of the country that he always has a lot of affection for.

“In the new political context in Uruguay, with its many challenges and responsibilities, we always aim for the common goal of promoting peace, justice and prosperity. Vietnam is an important source of inspiration on that path,” he concluded.

The Ho Chi Minh Monument is expected to be completed this year in Montevideo. The project is a living testament to the traditional friendship and increasingly deep ties between the people of Vietnam and Uruguay.
