"Because I like you so much but you say "ah loi"/ I also intended to do a hip hop solo with a local guy but never mind…" are rap lines that have been familiar to the audience for nearly two weeks.
The above rap lines belong to the song À Lợi by rapper Double2T (real name Bui Xuan Truong - PV) with a remix produced by Masew.
In just a short time, the MV lyric climbed to the top 1 position of Youtube's "Trending Music" category and reached more than 13 million views.
Not only that, "à loi" is also a trend that has spread across social network Tiktok with the "à loi transformation" trend.
Videos featuring handsome men and beautiful women combined with the song À Lợi have attracted a huge number of followers from the online community. Many Vietnamese celebrities such as singer Hòa Minzy and model Andrea Aybar have also quickly "caught the trend".
"The melody makes the audience remember immediately"
Besides responding, many audiences also questioned the reason for the development of the "ah loi" effect.
Inspired by the typical saying of the Tay ethnic group "a loi" meaning "huh?" or "oh my god", the song brought new emotions to music listeners.
Putting a familiar Tay exclamation into the song has helped the public pay more attention to the beauty of the ethnic minority language. Many posts and videos were shared on social networks with the status line: "Ah Loi... What is Ah Loi?", "Ah Loi sounds so interesting!"...
In addition to the impressive "ah loi" line, the highlight of the song is also the use of words and the flexible, easy-to-remember rhymes such as: "I put it in the rap for you to get both bait and bait/ Your house has a few hills, well, I've already counted them all";
"Yes, noong, ah loi/ We both have good personalities, both of us are beautiful/ I'll get rid of all the local boys' groups, I'll take care of the whole group/ We'll plant trees all over the hill, then I'll take you home"…
This is also the "formula" that many production teams focus on to increase the recognition of that music product with the audience.
The lyrics of the rap song "A Loi" are not only easy to remember, but also paint for the audience a clear picture of the culture of the ethnic people in the mountainous region, with interesting ways of pursuing love.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, music researcher Nguyen Quang Long commented that putting easy-to-listen, catchy lyrics and melodies into songs is currently a characteristic of today's music, not only in Vietnamese music but also in the region and the world .
He said: "For a song to be widely popular, it needs to have a melody that the audience can remember immediately, a certain lyric that makes a strong impression or a part of the music that makes them want to dance right away.
Like in this song, just the two words "a loi" can attract the audience. From there, they have created a lot of different content based on the song's music.
In addition to the bright spots in lyrics and melody, the appeal of À Lợi also lies in the arrangement of music producer Masew. Possessing strength in traditional cultural materials, Masew has affirmed his name through a series of hit songs such as Bạc mệnh, Môi trau, Á noi…
Besides, he also enchanted the arrangements of Doa hoa hong, Truyen thai y, 2 phut hon, Dieu toa...
Through Masew's arrangement, the audience can hear the sounds of the mountains and forests in the song À Lợi.
In this arrangement, Masew combined the sounds of the panpipe and the cat flute with the melody in each part of the piece, creating special rhythms.
On forums, it's easy to come across audience comments like: "The sound is really so captivating and attractive."
"When I listen to the mix, I can immediately imagine the poetic, romantic mountain scenery"... This also clearly shows the development trend of Vietnamese music - mixes and the important role of music producers today.
According to singer and rapper Ha Le, the success of this song is a combination of many factors. Besides the quality of the song and the performance of rapper Double2T, Masew's arrangement also helps Double2T clearly express his personal identity.
The male rapper commented: "The remix is full of Masew with the typical sounds of the ethnic minorities in the mountains. Double2T's use of the local language in the hook (chorus) makes the song even more special and attractive.
Double2T rhymes this song very well, but in my opinion his voice still needs to improve to have more nuances.
Old but not outdated
The success of À Lợi once again proves the appeal of bringing national cultural materials or literary and historical elements into modern music.
Before Ah Loi , audiences were captivated by a series of famous works such as Let Mi tell you, See love (Hoang Thuy Linh), My dear, don't come back (Duc Phuc), Thi Mau (Hoa Minzy), Nam quoc son ha (Erik, Phuong My Chi), Push the ox cart (Phuong My Chi)...
Answering a question from Dan Tri reporter about the current trend of Vietnamese artists incorporating folk elements into their musical works, music researcher Nguyen Quang Long affirmed that this is a welcome sign.
"This proves that young people working in the field of popular music are not indifferent to traditional materials. Exploiting them like this will create a unique color, a Vietnamese "quality" for songs for today's youth," he said.
According to music researcher Quang Long, there were previously many concerns about whether Vietnamese music was too dependent on world popular music, like a Vietnamese version of Kpop.
Therefore, the fact that artists choose to exploit ethnic materials in music makes him very happy.
"Of course we are still on a new path, the exploitation may or may not be as effective as expected, but that is very good for the current popular melody," he affirmed.
Faced with the question of whether artists who continue to exploit folk and ethnic materials are considered a beaten path, music researcher Nguyen Quang Long denies it and says that art is creativity.
For him, the important thing to make a musical work come to life is how the artist uses creative materials.
"More than half a century ago, we already had songs that exploited folk elements very well. After that, we always had songs with folk colors contributing to the musical life.
In recent years, we have heard songs like Let Mi tell you , still carrying the Northwest style but it is very different because it bears the mark of music for today's youth and is no less attractive.
The most important factor is the perspective and ability of the exploiter. That depends on the qualities and ability to explore of each person. Furthermore, if the artist is well-trained, eager to learn, and diligent in exploring the treasure of Vietnamese culture, the work will contain a higher artistic content," music researcher Nguyen Quang Long analyzed.
Sharing the same opinion with music researcher Nguyen Quang Long, rapper Ha Le said that national identity and culture are a huge data warehouse for artists to be creative and supplement their shortcomings.
Convey a positive story
Among the ballads released recently such as " Because I haven't cried yet" , "The ambiguity"... or some of the most recent hits such as "She's his" , "June rain"... , the appearance of A Loi has brought positive, joyful energy to the public.
Telling a beautiful love story with cute lyrics, A Loi is like a breath of fresh air for the audience. No suffering, tragedy, sadness, sorrow, the song becomes the choice for many audiences after stressful, tiring working hours. This also partly explains the appeal of A Loi on social networking platforms.
The popularity of the phrase "à lêi" and the rap song of the same name has narrowed the gap between the mountainous and plain areas, helping to spread the image of beautiful nature as well as the unique culture of the Northwest. Many audiences hope that the melody of À lêi will be able to reach the world like the success of the song See tình.
