The Indian Army announced that it and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will kick off the two-week joint exercise “Desert Storm 2024” from January 2-15. This marks an important milestone in the strategic partnership between India and the UAE.
The main focus of the India-UAE joint exercise is to enhance interoperability and share best practices in Urban Operations, the Indian Army said in a social media post. The vast Thar Desert in Rajasthan, western India, will be the backdrop for the rigorous training exercises.
Earlier, in August, two Indian Navy ships, INS Visakhapatnam and INS Trikand under the command of Rear Admiral Vineet McCarty, Officer Commanding, Western Fleet (FOCWF), participated in the bilateral exercise “Zayed Talwar” with the UAE to enhance interoperability and synergy between the two navies.
India and UAE established diplomatic relations in 1972. UAE opened its embassy in Delhi in 1972, while India opened its embassy in Abu Dhabi in 1973.
Since then, bilateral defence interactions between India and the UAE have grown in line with bilateral relations. The two countries also conduct regular exchanges at all levels. Ships from both navies make regular port calls to enhance defence cooperation.
