On July 17, the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province issued a decision on the organizational structure of the Department of Education and Training of Bac Ninh after the merger of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces. Notably, this decision kept the names of the two specialized schools of Bac Ninh (new), namely Bac Giang Specialized High School and Bac Ninh Specialized High School, as before the merger; instead of changing the names to Bac Ninh Specialized High School No. 1 and Bac Ninh Specialized High School No. 2, as in the previous decision.

Previously, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province signed and issued Decision No. 09/QD-UBND on the organizational structure of the Department of Education and Training of Bac Ninh province, including the renaming of specialized schools.

Specifically, Bac Ninh Specialized High School and Bac Giang Specialized High School (before the merger) were renamed Bac Ninh Specialized High School No. 1 and Bac Ninh Specialized High School No. 2, respectively, after the establishment of the new Bac Ninh province.

This decision takes effect from July 1. These are 2 of 80 public service units including public high schools, vocational education and continuing education centers under the management of the Department of Education and Training of Bac Ninh.

Bac Ninh is also the first province to change the names of specialized high schools in the area after the merger. However, information about this name change has caused many controversial debates.

Most opinions believe that changing the name of the school after the merger of provinces is unnecessary if it does not have the same name. Many opinions believe that Bac Giang Specialized High School has a rich tradition, is in the memory of many generations, and is located in Bac Giang Ward, so it should keep its original name. This both maintains the legacy, saves money and limits complicated procedures.

Many people commented that the decision to rename the specialized schools of Bac Ninh province was quite mechanical. The way of naming schools in numerical order "number 1, number 2" also made many people wonder because it did not have much meaning, especially the name associated with schools with tradition and will be associated with the educational history of the locality.

Speaking to Thanh Nien reporters at the time, a leader of the Department of Education and Training of Bac Ninh said that the department had received feedback and would submit to the People's Committee a more suitable name plan for the two specialized high schools in Bac Ninh.

Bac Ninh's decision to "return the names" to two specialized high schools in the province after the merger shows its willingness to listen to criticism and make more appropriate adjustments.

Both Bac Giang and Bac Ninh High Schools for the Gifted are traditional schools, among the leading schools in the country. In the national excellent student exam for the 2024-2025 school year, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted ranked 11th, and Bac Giang High School for the Gifted ranked 4th in the country in terms of the number of awards.
