The opening ceremony of the 2024-2025 school year was held by the Academy of Traditional Medicine ( Ministry of Health ) today, September 26, in Hanoi.
At the opening ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Huy, Director of the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine, said that in the 2024-2025 school year, the academy has enrolled more than 1,100 students in undergraduate and graduate training programs, reaching 100% of the enrollment target. The exam scores of the three majors (medicine, pharmacy and graduate) are all higher than the previous year. Currently, the academy has nearly 6,500 students.
Director of Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine recommends that students need to improve their foreign language skills.
Regarding the academy's new major, the Ministry of Health has decided to evaluate 2 major codes for internal medicine specialist 1 and external medicine specialist 1 and 1 master's code for traditional medicine and pharmacy is submitting to the Ministry of Education and Training for approval to open major codes.
Mr. Huy affirmed that improving the quality of training is always the academy's top priority. The academy is implementing a cooperation program with the HAIVN organization of Harvard University in Vietnam to implement training activities for lecturers in 6 months, with 15 topics to innovate medical training (the principle for other fields) in the direction of training based on the competencies required to be achieved after graduation.
The Director of the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine and Pharmacy suggested that students need to be more active in theory classes and clinical studies at hospitals; continuously improve their foreign language and information technology skills...
According to the Traditional Medicine Development Program, combining traditional medicine with modern medicine by 2030, 100% of traditional medicine doctors will receive continuous training and post-graduate training in modern medicine specialties; develop and standardize training materials and professional documents on combining traditional medicine with modern medicine used in medical examination and treatment facilities; increase the rate of medical examination and treatment, and the number of medical examination and treatment facilities that integrate traditional medicine with modern medicine.
Representatives of some hospitals shared that improving the input quality and training quality of traditional medicine doctors is an advantage in terms of job opportunities, especially the professional quality in medical examination and treatment for students after graduation.
According to the research results on the current situation and needs of continuing education in traditional medicine for doctors at general hospitals in Hanoi in 2022, 74% of doctors have participated in continuing education courses, the content of which is mainly knowledge of treatment using traditional medicine.
Direct training at training facilities is the most popular form of participation with 58.2%. The need for continuous training in traditional medicine is up to 93.75%.
