(GLO)- On the morning of June 1, at the Pleiku City Children's House ( Gia Lai Province), the Pleiku City Summer Activities Steering Committee opened the summer - Children's Olympic Day; launched a campaign for the whole population to practice swimming, prevent and combat drowning for children in Pleiku City in 2023.

Attending the opening ceremony were leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Department of Information and Communications, Gia Lai Newspaper, Provincial Youth Union; leaders of Pleiku City People's Committee and departments, branches and organizations of the city; Summer Activity Steering Committee of communes and wards along with 300 youth and students in the city.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Huu Sung - Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Pleiku City, Head of the Steering Committee for Summer Activities of Pleiku City informed: The People's Committee of Pleiku City organized the opening of the summer of 2023 with the theme "Let's join hands to protect children for the future of the community". In order to successfully complete the summer activities, it is recommended that members of the Summer Steering Committee of communes and wards need to perform well the following tasks: Thoroughly educate cadres, party members and the masses about the importance of managing and educating students during the summer in the locality.

Establish the Summer Steering Committee at the commune and ward levels and sub-committees for summer activities in villages, hamlets, and residential groups; organize the reception and handover of students to return to summer activities according to the guidance of the City Summer Steering Committee, develop summer activity plans in each locality, hamlet, and village in accordance with the actual conditions in their locality. Actively promote the youth's participation in local economic-cultural-social development. Promote on-site volunteer activities, respond to the volunteer plan organized by the city and launched by the Pleiku City Youth Union.

On this occasion, the Pleiku City Summer Activities Steering Committee donated 10 bicycles from the city's Children's Support Fund to disadvantaged students who are striving to excel in their studies. The City Veterans Association coordinated with the Pleiku City Youth Union Standing Committee to donate a project to "eliminate dilapidated houses" worth 60 million VND to Mr. Puih Biu (Nhao 1 village, Ia Kenh commune).

Pleiku City Youth Union and Chi Lang High School presented 2 Tri Thanh scholarships worth 300 million VND to 2 excellent students with difficult circumstances in Tan Son commune. Pleiku City Youth Union Teachers' Club handed over a "Red Scarf" house worth 60 million VND to students of Anh Hung Nup Primary School (Thang Loi ward).
