The newspaper wrote that the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) requested a surprise qualification check for two Vietnamese players and one player failed to pass the test, leading to his disqualification. The Indonesian newspaper Antara stressed that the incident caused a lot of controversy in the international sports community and disrupted the results of the tournament. FIVB requested tests on two players of the Vietnamese team, one of whom failed the test, leading to the Vietnamese team losing four matches and having to play in the 17th to 24th ranked matches.

Before being disqualified, U.21 Vietnam had a 3-0 victory over the home team.

Tribunnews (Indonesia) also reported the same news and quoted the reaction from VFV. This page wrote: VFV has explained why two of their players did not play in the match against Puerto Rico. This page quoted VFV General Secretary Le Tri Truong , saying that the reason the two Vietnamese players did not play in the final match of the group stage was due to additional administrative procedures. Mr. Truong said this situation happened because the Organizing Committee requested additional documents, such as birth certificates, for the players.

The VFV’s argument did not change the FIVB’s decision and the agency continued to investigate. Before this incident, U.21 Vietnam was ranked second on the rankings with 12 points. However, after the incident, Vietnam fell to the bottom of the table with 3 points and only one win.
