Love spreads from Quang Tri Citadel

In the summer of 1972, Quang Tri Citadel became a tragic symbol of the resistance war against the US. 81 days and nights of fierce fighting took the blood and bones of tens of thousands of cadres, soldiers and guerrillas. This land marked the great sacrifice, leaving behind a special cemetery that is unique in history. For those lucky enough to return, the memory of the fiery summer will forever be a sacred source reminding them of their fallen comrades.

Stemming from the desire to preserve tradition and spread that value, in April 2019, the Association of Soldiers of Quang Tri Citadel 1972, Lam Dong province was established. After just over 5 years, the Association has become a common home for veterans, where they share, encourage and continue the team spirit. To date, the whole province has 17 branches with 525 members, nearly double the number of the first day of its launch.

In the middle of Lam Dong plateau, the old comradeship is still anchored in common homes, persistently connecting love and nurturing beautiful living ideals for today's generation.

The Association's activities are also increasingly going into depth. On holidays and Lunar New Year, in addition to gifts from the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, the Association also mobilizes additional resources to give to each member, helping them to celebrate spring more fully. Pilgrimages to pay tribute to martyrs are also maintained regularly.

In addition to gratitude, the Association also creates an environment for veterans to promote their responsibilities in the locality. Many members participate in social work, build cultural life in residential areas, and hold roles in Party committees and organizations. Such dedication is respected and recognized by the Central Association, the government and the community.

Mr. Le Trung Tinh - Chairman of the Association shared: “During the days of bombs and bullets, every step could be the last. What remains after the war is the strong camaraderie. It is that bond that gives us more strength to rely on each other, preserve the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers and continue to do good deeds for the homeland. Preserving memories of the battlefield is a responsibility to fallen comrades, and at the same time, a way to educate the younger generation to appreciate peace .”

The fulcrum of female resistance

Along with the Association of Quang Tri Ancient Citadel Soldiers in 1972, Lam Dong Province, the Lam Dong Women's Resistance Liaison Committee is also a special common home. Established in 1983, the Committee gathers female veterans who directly participated in the resistance war in the area. Up to now, the Committee has 272 members, most of whom are elderly but still maintain their solidarity, affection and sense of responsibility to the community.

Every July, female veterans meet in a solemn and warm atmosphere. They burn incense at the Da Lat Martyrs Cemetery, recalling their youth in the Da Lat - Tuyen Duc war zone. After the moment of remembrance, simple stories about wartime are told to the younger generation. Some were liaisons, guides, gunmen, and those who raised children and protected cadres... Each memory is a slice of history, forging the resilient strength of Lam Dong women.

In addition to reviewing traditions, the Liaison Committee also maintains a mutual support fund, visits members in difficulty, and cares for families of war invalids and martyrs. The gifts, though small in material terms, are full of camaraderie, giving the sisters more strength to overcome old age and illness.

According to Ms. Le Thi An - Head of the Lam Dong Women's Resistance Liaison Committee, the greatest significance of the Committee is not only in maintaining traditional meetings but also in becoming a spiritual support for members. Ms. An shared: "We try to preserve camaraderie through specific actions such as visiting and supporting members in difficulty, building a mutual aid fund. Along with that, the Committee always aims to inspire the younger generation through exchanges and traditional talks for students, university students, and youth union members, helping young people understand the value of peace and live responsibly for their homeland."

Although the war has long since ended, the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel Soldiers Association of Lam Dong Province in 1972 and the Lam Dong Women's Resistance Liaison Committee still shine like a traditional flame. From the close comradeship, the members continue to write the story of love, fostering beautiful ideals for the younger generation and arousing the aspiration to build an increasingly prosperous homeland.
