Only 3 teams were eliminated, U.17 Vietnam decided their own place in the World Cup
According to CNN Indonesia, only 3 teams were eliminated early after the second round of the group stage of the U.17 Asian Cup, namely China, Thailand (Group A) and Afghanistan (Group C). Meanwhile, surprisingly, the U.17 Vietnam team excellently held off the extremely strong opponent and the reigning U.17 champion Japan with a score of 1-1 in Group B on April 7, to keep the hope of winning a ticket to the World Cup until the last match of the group stage.

The second round of the group stage of the AFC U17 Championship, with matches in Group D taking place on April 8, includes the match between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea U17 and Tajikistan U17 and the match between Oman U17 and Iran U17. It is likely that another team will be eliminated, possibly the Oman U17 (0 points) if they continue to lose to Iran, CNN Indonesia reported.
"However, the biggest drama is taking place in Group B, when all four teams, U.17 Japan (4 points), UAE (3 points), U.17 Vietnam (2 points, with 2 draws) and Australia (1 point, with 1 draw and 1 loss), still have a chance to continue.
The U.17 Vietnam team will decide their own chances with a direct match against the U.17 UAE in the final round (at 10 p.m. on April 10). If they win, the young Vietnamese team, along with Indonesia, will be the two best representatives of Southeast Asia to advance to the knockout round and officially qualify for the 2025 U.17 World Cup finals in Qatar in November later this year," CNN Indonesia commented.
Indonesian newspapers also highly appreciated the two performances of the Vietnam U.17 team with draws against strong opponents such as Australia and Japan both with the same score of 1-1, and especially the equalizers all happened at important moments of the match.
Like the draw with U.17 Australia with a goal right at the beginning of the second half, and the draw with Japan with an equalizer in extra time. It shows that the young Vietnamese team knows how to make their opponents passive and surprised at the most crucial moments of the match.

U.17 Indonesia's mission is not over yet
According to Mr. Erick Thohir, President of PSSI: "I would like to congratulate the Indonesian U.17 team. The victory over Yemen (with a score of 4-1) in the second match of the U.17 Asian Cup helped us to quickly enter the quarterfinals and also secure a place to attend the 2025 U.17 World Cup in Qatar.
But remember, the battle is not over yet. The players and coaching staff must refocus for the next match in the tournament to achieve the best results."
In the final match of Group C on April 11, U.17 Indonesia met U.17 Afghanistan, they still need to win 1 more point to ensure keeping the top position. Afghanistan was eliminated after losing to U.17 Korea with a score of 0-6 on April 8. Meanwhile, U.17 Korea will compete with Yemen (both teams have 3 points) to compete for the remaining ticket to continue and a place in the World Cup.
This is the second time the U.17 Indonesia team has won a ticket to the U.17 World Cup after the first time in 2023 as the host team.
