Storm No. 10 with terrible winds and heavy rain causes much damage in Nghe An and Ha Tinh

In the early morning of September 29, storm No. 10 with wind gusts of level 12-13 and waves 5-6m high made landfall directly in Nghe An and Ha Tinh, causing heavy to very heavy rain over a wide area.

The storm was as destructive as the recent storm No. 5, and at times the wind gusts were even stronger, causing serious damage. A long sleepless night for the people of Central Vietnam.

In Ha Tinh, the storm raged for many hours from the night of September 28 to the early morning of September 29. The coastal areas of Ky Anh, Cam Xuyen, and Nghi Xuan (old) recorded much initial damage, with many houses collapsed, roofs blown off, and electric poles toppled.

Many households had just recovered from the damage caused by storm No. 5, but now suffered many losses from storm No. 10. In Vinh city and the coastal districts of Cua Lo, Nghi Loc, Dien Chau, and Quynh Luu (old), strong gusts of wind knocked down numerous trees and electric poles, damaging many roads. Hundreds of houses had their roofs blown off, and many public works were damaged.

Some houses in apartment buildings in Nghe An province had their windows broken by strong winds, causing water to flood into their homes.

In particular, in some apartment buildings in the old Vinh city area, windows were blown away by strong winds, and heavy rain poured in, forcing many households to evacuate urgently, and property was flooded. In Nghe An and Ha Tinh, thousands of houses had their roofs blown off, thousands of hectares of rice and crops were deeply flooded, and many national and provincial highways were paralyzed due to flooding, landslides, fallen trees and electric poles, and widespread power outages.

Some coastal areas suffered severe erosion and damage to anchored boats. Students in Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces had to stay home from school to ensure their safety.

Authorities warn that in the coming hours, storm No. 10 will continue to cause widespread heavy rain, with a high risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas and deep flooding in low-lying areas. The government and military units are scrambling to respond.
