On January 17, information from Hung Yen Provincial Police said that this unit had just transferred the case file to the Traffic Police Department of Hanoi City Police to continue verifying and clarifying the case of 2 illegal sand dredging ships on the Red River.

Previously, at 11:45 p.m. on January 16, the working group including officers and soldiers from the Traffic Police Department; Criminal Police Department; Department of Investigation of Crimes on Corruption, Economy , Smuggling, and Environment; Mobile Police Department and Van Giang District Police (under Hung Yen Provincial Police) coordinated with the Traffic Police Department and Traffic Police Department of Hanoi City Police to catch two vehicles illegally dredging sand on the Red River (in the border area between Van Giang District, Hung Yen and Gia Lam District, Thanh Tri District, Hanoi City).

The working group inspected and detained a reinforced concrete-hulled vessel without a registration number, which was sucking sand from the Red River bed and pumping it into the hold of an iron-hulled vessel with registration number VP-1947.

Police forces coordinated to inspect illegal sand dredging on two vehicles on the Red River.

At the time of inspection, 5 people on the illegal sand dredging vessel confessed that they were asked by a person (name, age, address unknown) to bring the vessel to the above area to dredge sand, and after dredging for about 1 hour, they were discovered by the authorities. At the time of inspection, all people on the dredging vessel could not present certificates of professional competence and vehicle documents, and admitted to illegally dredging sand.

There were 3 people on the VP-1947 ship, of which NTL (41 years old, residing in Tan Lap commune, Song Lo district, Vinh Phuc ) was the owner of the vehicle. On the evening of January 16, L. and 2 others drove the VP-1947 ship to the side of the suction ship to transfer sand.

At the time of inspection, there was sand in the two cargo holds of the VP-1947 ship, with a volume of about 150 m3 . The crew on board presented the vehicle's technical safety and environmental protection certificate, which had expired since December 21, 2023.
