According to the tournament format, 43 teams are divided into 3 groups of 5 teams and 7 groups of 4 teams. The 10 group winners and 5 best second-placed teams will advance.

Up to this point, U17 Vietnam has been at a disadvantage when they drew the first match against a weaker opponent. Thus, coach Cristiano Roland and his team must win the second match. With only 4 teams in the group, the second place team in group A will not be deducted points when comparing their performance with the other second place teams.

Basically, qualifying teams need about 7 or 6 points and a good goal difference (from +3 to +5 or more) to reach the final round. Therefore, victory is the goal that U17 Vietnam is aiming for.
