The away match against Ninh Binh Club on the evening of October 2nd was very difficult for The Cong - Viettel when the students of coach Velizar Popov were behind and had to play with one less player (Bui Tien Dung was sent off). However, the army team still fought hard and equalized 1-1 in the second half, before leaving with a valuable point.
"I am proud of my players, especially their attitude after Bui Tien Dung's red card. After this match, I believe my team has the best defense in the tournament," coach Velizar Popov shared after the match.
This was also a good match for the two goalkeepers Ninh Binh and The Cong - Viettel, when both played well, preventing many dangerous situations from their opponents. The Bulgarian strategist especially praised goalkeeper Nguyen Van Viet.
"Without a doubt, Van Viet is the best goalkeeper in Vietnam. That's why head coach Kim Sang Sik called him up to the national team and he will most likely become number one there," said Mr. Popov.
Van Viet was born in 2002, belongs to Song Lam Nghe An , is playing for The Cong - Viettel on loan until 2026.
Despite being a newcomer, Viet quickly took over Pham Van Phong's starting position, and was given the opportunity by coach Popov to play continuously for the army team since round 2 of the V-League until now.
After 6 rounds, The Cong - Viettel maintained an unbeaten streak like Ninh Binh, but still only ranked 4th on the V-League 2025-2026 rankings with 12 points.
Round 7, coach Popov's team will host Da Nang at Hang Day Stadium on October 20.
